Nice price, I have one of these and they work great and no units on display too.
Remote is radio too and not infra red, so works well.
Heat added.

Does anyone know if you can sideload the RARflix version of plex to this ,i've got used to this on NowTv?
and does netflix allow profiles,I read some roku's don't allow this?

And I suppose the big qurstion for people who have one, does iplayer,4od,demmand 5,netflix and nowtv run well on it

I would like to use one of these primarily for spotify. Do I have to have a tv or can I connect directly to hifi

You would need a TV so that you could negotiate the menus. However once Spotify was launched it would probably just carry on playing until you turned the power off.

Couple of thoughts about this deal.
(1) It is only the marked Roku packs which have a NowTV freebie card in them. Tesco Direct advertises this offer which suggests all their stock has it but I wonder how good their stock management is?! (FWIW I bought a Roku 3 at £69 from them last week and all was well so fingers crossed).
(2) My local Tesco Extra has the Roku Stick in-store at this price. Could make a total bargain for anyone with some money off groceries vouchers.

I haven't tried a lot of NowTV on my stick but after 6 months use of all the others (plus a few more) I can confirm everything seems to run pretty flawlessly. And Yes, the Netflix app supports user profiles.

btw, not all the channels which run on the Roku are in the Roku store. If you are after anything experimental or slightly more, ahem, "mature", then they are called "private channels" and not advertised. However you can do an on-line search and find a channel code or ID which you can add to your Roku on-line account. That app will then download automatically to your player a little later.

It's a good price when you factor in the Now TV pass. However, aside from letting you watch Netflix (which is blocked on the Now TV box) is there really much else that the streaming stick offers over a £10 Now TV box which can usually be had for next to nothing thanks to bundle deals.

Don't get me wrong, I like Roku hardware and the stick does get good reviews, just trying to determine if it's worth the extra over a Now TV box.

They are also in store (picked one up from Wrexham yesterday)

If your a WWE network subscriber it could be worth it. WWE ain't on nowtv or chromecast.

Can a Now TV box stream the Showbox or CinemaHD apps?

Thanks OP. Just got one of these. Any recommendations for decent lesser known channels. I know about Netflix and the big ones. :-)

You are welcome.

Just got one of these off ebay for a couple quid more than this.

Just to answer some of the questions about it:

- Yes Netflix supports profiles
- All the other catchup apps (iPlayer, ITV Player, 4OD, 5 etc.) work fine - however the iPlayer app is pretty sluggish, which is entirely the BBCs fault. Additionally iPlayer currently has a bug on it where you get black bars at the top and bottom of the screen (not v noticeable in normal use though). The BBC are aware of this but seem to be passing the buck to Roku iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/tv/…ars
- Why get this over a NowTV? As well as Netflix it is a faster device. I upgraded from NowTV because I found the new iPlayer app to be unusable on it due to its speed. As I say it performs better on this stick and is usable again, however it still has a lot of room for improvement. All other apps are nice and smooth so there really is no excuse from the Beeb, they clearly didn't test it on lower powered devices.
- Don't get this for using Spotify, you'll be disappointed. The app is very out of date (even still uses their old logo) and barely has any functionality. You can log in but it doesn't show you any of your music, just search and genre screens. It doesn't work with Spotify Connect so you can't even push your music with your phone

Can someone advise please. will this work with movietube?i am looking for a chromecast for the right price are these better? thanx.

Another bonus for the Roku stick is that is supports miracasting from android and windows devices!

I had one and it streamed great from my lumia 930 and HP Stream 7. Returned it as couldn't get it to mirror my Surface Pro 3 - turns out it was a problem with the firewall on the Surface.

Tempted to rebuy at this price, mainly as a to get Netflix in the bedroom [currently have a now tv box].

Is the NOW TV offer available instore?

This or the amazon fire stick?

TED is great if you want something to stretch the grey cells. However the TED app only seems to offer easy access to the most recent TED talks so I tend to watch a lot of them through YouTube. YouTube is probably the most watched app on my Roku after Netflix and the catch-up players.

Awesome, thanks for posting this. I chose this over Chromecast and Amazon FireTV stick as it seems to have better support for MKV files and H264 format.

I found these sticks on sale in my local tesco last week for just under £25... reduced to clear.

Most likely a local thing so i did not post it.

Roku also offers (some) content in 1080p where as Now TV is a maximum of 720p.

Yeah, it's instore as well, picked one up today, was marked on the shelf at £49 but scanned at £34. Sticker on the box stated 3 months entertainment pass inside. Registered mine earlier, easy to do

Does the Roku have anything similar to the screensaver that the Chromecast displays of satellite images and landscapes? I found those alone to make the chromecast well worth the money.

What if you have 2 in the same house?

I was wondering that myself as tempted to buy another for downstairs !

I'm in a pickle now, was currently running 2 now TV boxes with Plex. Bought the Amazon stick and I want to like it at £19, but limited catch up.the roku stick is very good, the catch up services as expected are clear like nowtv , the Amazon sticks demand 5 quality is very poor compared,iPlayer the same.,I originally just wanted a Netflix player for bedroom. But having a "1 stick solution" is really good.

I wonder if the 3 month pass can be sold to anyone, or you can only use it against a roku device, specifically the one is come with

looks to me to be really good to be fair, I currently have now tv + amazon fire stick, but realistically I am tempted to sell both and get 2 of these as Roku plex app is the best and catch up services are the best and netflix is there too

Am I right in thinking you are watching showbox using a Roku Stick?

Only, there's no 'Showbox' app (or, "channel", as Roku refer to them) in the Channel Store and (in so far as I'm aware) there's no access code available online for a "private" channel version of 'Showbox' either.

I'm assuming you must be using the 'Showbox' app for Android mobile devices, coupled with the BETA 'Screen Mirroring' feature (enabled via the 'Settings' menu) on your Roku Stick to watch on your TV. Is that correct?

If so, is there any lag when streaming from 'Showbox' for Android, via 'Screen Mirroring' to your Roku Stick, on your TV?

Can you make use of medium / high quality streams from the 'Showbox' Android app? Or, do you have to stick to the 'Low' quality setting to maintain a reliable stream when using 'Screen Mirror' feature to watch on TV via Roku Stick?

Me to,,I have 2 NowTV boxes and tempted to sell the amazon stick and have the all in one roku.

Only things i've noticed is,the bbc apps have weird black bars at the top and bottom,,the NowTV doesn't suffer from this.

The amazon stick is faster on Iplayer browsing and about the same quality on both.

The quality of the Netflix apps are about the same, though browsing on the amazon stick is faster, but its fast on the ROKU.

The channel 5 quality on the amazon TV is rubbish.

Amazon fire TV is nice and its got a lot of potential,,but the ROKU is so simple and all in one place,,just a shame it doesn't have amazon instant to finish it of

But

Apart from KODI,the roku is much better in my opinion

Actually, watching iPlayer more tonight in the Roku, and the black bars on iPlayer are a shunt issue, it actually cuts of some of the programme.

E.g-panorama programme I noticed subtitles that came up for certain duologue is cut of at the bottom.

Does anyone know how long this has been happening for?

Strange thing is the nowtv doesn't do this, as it's virtually the same unit, barring ram and 1080p output, you'd think it would be the same coding for the app

What's the screen saver like? Does it show images like the chrome cast?
