What recommendations do people have for offline soft synths?
I think you only have to wait a few days and a soft synth will be added for free (I am hoping for a D50 personally)

No, as Roland already has them downloadable as a part of its cloud service (which is, after a few hiccups, now extremely good)

A52s. Just red and orange dots randomly appearing over the pull down menus. Can't change anything.

De-install what exactly? It's just a website?
You might have to clear your browser cache
On holiday at the moment but can send you a list when home if you like. What is your spec/system/setup and are you using a controller(s)?
There are some great free and paid for ones depending on what you want to do.
I don't have a specific controller (you mean like an electronic drum kit?)
I was perhaps naively thinking I could produce beats by layering drum sounds entered via keyboard?
(I play analogue drums a bit, but really fancied making some drum loops to play along with)
Back home now.
I was meaning more a keyboard controller but it's not vital.
What is your computer spec and operating system?
Once I know that I can make some recommendations and yes, you will be able to make drum loops.
Do you have any experience of DAWs, VSTs and so on?
