Anyone have this and can recommend? Wondering if the power cable is quite long to tuck in around the dash & carpet to conceal it?

Bought one for £20 and the sd card keeps coming up with faults even tho I've formatted it. Not brilliant if I'm honest

The cable is long enough tho

I think this is the same....

Too fuzzy to recognise a number plate at anything further than spitting distance. However its better than none at all. No alternative at lower or equal price ( no really looked into cheaper)

These are definitely 'better than nothing' but only just!
Personally though I would pay more for the quality of the eprance G1w or a Mobius, I have both and highly recommend them.

What spec is the card they include (Class 10 or better??)

Cameras tend to be moody - they like faster cards - it would be silly if it came with a card too-slow for itself but that's entirely possible!?

Did you format the card in the camera?

Have you tried formatting it using the Panasonic SD Formatter (google - it's free and solves many issues with SD Cards)??

I got this, picture quality is quite good, but it does feel cheap, feels like it could break at any minute, I could be wrong and it will last forever!!!!

This looks exactly like my first carcam which I bought ten years ago for the same price on amazon. Not a deal. Inflation? Rapidly moving technology and demand?

avi file format. standard definition. 32gb card max. shows an impression of 'what happens' but no chance of identifying a reg plate even if the car is sat in front (of behind) the camera and maintaining the same speed.

Which is better in terms of playback image quality? I have G1W's.

These are terrible. Can't read a number plate beyond 3 metres. Battery lasts about 4 seconds and the charging lead constantly falls out due to its incredibly poor build quality.

looks same. (sorry it meant to be the reason for link!)
reviews not too bad on amazon.

The "similar" one gets 541 reviews at 1 star, 1004 at 5 stars....I always look at the lowest reviews for "accuracy".

If you have a 'genuine' G1w then it is far superior to the camera offered here.
With you actually needing to ask the question are you sure your G1w is actually genuine because there are tons of counterfeit copies for sale of lower quality.
I have a G1w and a Mobius in the family cars and the recorded quality is outstanding both day and night with number plates easily readable, techmoan has plenty of sample clips on his youtube pages for comparison.

The footage on the G1W is outstanding. However, from my experience it has 2 major flaws. 1. It doesnt like cold weather and can take up to 10 mins to switch on in the winter so a no go if you live in the North and 2. The motion sensor/park doesnt work. My car was hit twice whilst parked on different occassions - once costing several hundered pounds - and no footage was recorded. You get what you pay for with these and I wish now I had spent more money as I would have recouped it several times over. The G1W got brill reviews, thats why I bought it, but looking back now it seems the reviews were all about quality of footage and not how it functions in motion sensor/parking mode.

Yep, it looks like the £9 Super Legend off Amazon which is awful.
Terrible quality, suction cup kept falling off - cold from me.
I ended up buying the G1W-C instead for £30 off gearbest and can't fault it.

Go to your local supermarket, buy a potato, hang it in your windscreen, job done. Potato costs about 20p so much cheaper.

I don't understand why you would want to read number plates. Surely just proving an accident was not you fault is all you need? I would be more concerned that it can pick up whether some on is indicating or not. Like I experience everyday when some idiot thinks they can just go around a roundabout without indicating so everyone has to guess where they are going.

I had one of these, couldn't get it to record more than a 4 minute video which made it outrageously hard to watch back.

This was one of my first dashcams. Build quality was very poor, as the plastic lugs holding the drop down screen broke very quickly. Picture quality isn't really good enough to capture any kind of moving car, like when I was nearly smashed into by someone thinking they could go turn right through a red light. With the best will in the world, I couldn't get a clear shot of the plate. And don't even think about using it on a night. I did manage to get it to loop recordings, but this is best avoided. Double up on your budget and get something with more quality.

I meant between the Modius and G1W. I laugh at the **** being touted here!

Techmoan footage is limited and takes an eternity to download on my internet. So is the footage comparable in your opinion?

Got my G1W's from E-prance through Amazon.

The footage from the Eprance G1w and Mobius in daylight is very similar and of excellent quality but in the dark the Eprance is better and seems to really pull in any available light into the video making it really bright and clear even in the darkest of nights.
I also bought my Eprance G1w of amazon themselves and got a genuine one.
Where the Mobius excells is its stealth appearance 'its the size of a tic-tac box'and were mine is placed it is impossible to see it from outside the car.

I live in the North and have used my G1w for 2 years now in mid winter and the start up time is always about 4 seconds summer or winter.
Are you sure you bought a genuine one? because the G1w is the most copied/faked dashcam on the market with companies like Gearbest and ebay selling thousand of fakes.

You are buying the wrong gadget altogether if you want to record anything useful when parked. Any dashcam will be hit and miss for that, unless you have about 4 pointing in all directions! You also need to get a constant power feed to them.

Better with CCTV for that.

Not seen the temperature issue - with my two G1WH models and two others owned by friends.

Yes you're correct your insurance company will pay you out if you have fully comprehensive like most people do.
BUT you will also loose your no claim bonus and your insurance premium will go sky high next year even if the accident is not your fault if you can't trace the other driver that hit you and drove off that's why you need a decent camera that can pick up number plates and not just a blurred car making a hasty getaway after the accident.

Mines so good I could see the hairs on his swivel finger as he drove off laughing

I recently bought two of these. One was for a friend. The other was for me for a drive to Scotland from North Wales.

One of them had a blank display.
The other one would only work when plugged in and I'd actually left it charging about 24 hours before any proper use.
Because I had to have it plugged in to work properly (or the battery would last just a couple of minutes) it would turn itself off as soon as I turned my engine off. Some people like to have them kept on for continuous recording.

I called CPC to try replacements, but now I'm back from Scotland and I've just seen the quality of them on my laptop, I've decided to get a refund instead and go for a more expensive model.

I don't know what you will buy that does what you seem to want to do with it as no dashcam I have seen runs for more than a few minutes on its internal battery - the idea is that it does turn off when you leave the car (and on again when you turn the key) and it's battery serves just to write the last video to the SD card. Most cars also lose power to the socket when you turn the ignition off fully, so to keep recording you would have to wire it separately.

I guess minutes was an overstatement. I probably should have said seconds. But anyway, the device never fully charged.

MINE CAME W WITH AN INCREDIBLY LONG POWER LEAD (CIGARETTE MALE PLUG ON END) MORE THAN ENOUGH TO REWIRE INTO DASH. VERY GOOD UNITS FOR PRICE, CLEAR IMAGE UNLESS IN A VERY DARK AREA AT NIGHT AND YOUR HEADLIGHTS LOW ..THE USB TO PC LEAD WAS QUITE SHORT BUT BUT THESE ARE PENNIES TO BUY VERY LONG ONE FROM EBAY)

I got one, very low grade plastic and the lugs holding the screen gave up pretty quickly, so it velcro and duct tape time. Cable is long but what shouty man says above is nonsense, as soon as you hit twilight it's next to useless.
There seems to be a massive variation in quality on these, but your choice is pretty simple: buy a cheap sub-£20 one and take your chances or go for a higher, more reliable branded one at £30+.
