One coat every year.... Literally washes off with the rain. Why did they restrict the use of creosote...?

I found the exact same thing.

Is there anything which is oil based instead of water based? Cant tell from the specifications.
Have to agree, this stuff is not long lasting, wouldn't buy again.

same. only lasts 2 years. fed up painting
Not sure but my grandad seems to use his old car oil
we used this last year. looks as good as new still, however this was previously untreated wood. I think it's when it been painted before that the problems start....
The medium oak one looks a bit more orange than it does on the tin, stick with the dark oak.

so anyone suggest another alternative cheap option for protecting a garden fence?
Make friends with a local farmer who can order creosote
this stuff which is basically a paint, bits come off and looks poor
does hide poor condition wood though so i have some on an old fence and an adjoining new fence to colour match
looks good but its annoying maintenance as has no abrasion resistance or longevity
(i was using the ducksback)

could use one of the preservers such as
http://www.wood-finishes-direct.com/img/prodspecs/7/155/big.jpg

(if painted as would have to strip all off really) its not great for wood in poor condition though as is translucent so you can see the flaws - lasts better though and doesn't leave uneven chunks flaking off as it wears
much thinner and goes on nicely and you can feel its being taken into the wood

edit: costs a good bit more but think how long it takes to paint the bloody things!

I have tried so many of these products over the years and there is little or no difference between them, I really dont know how or why they get away with their scanderlous claims, one coat, long lasting, to name a couple. As far as I am concerned I get the cheapest price I can, it doesn't matter if its one of the fancy names or own brand stuff none of them cover a different colour or even the same colour with one coat. I have recently used a tin of colour shed paint which went straight onto new untreated wood quite well but still needed a second coat. The price on this listing is cheap but its still crap. I always had a resonable opinion of Cuprinol and Ronseal but they are all the same. just a name

last 5 years if inside a dry cupboard at 20C and low humidity
This is the worst fence paint I have ever purchased in over 10 years of painting them. Awful and not fit for purpose. They should pay people to use this rubbish.
