Nice timepiece

Good discount but I really dont like it. Its too plain and boring for my taste but thats just me.

Good deal, voted hot, but this one is a tad better, less plain but still not garish if that's your taste

I agree, it looks like a £9.99 watch on the Amazon site, maybe it looks better in "real life"

Doubt anyone would ever have paid £325

I have a Rotary Elite that I wear for work and have done for the past 8 years, hot from me.

Yes the RRP is a bit OTT but this is often the case.

RRP seems to be more like £265.00 so it's a good price on Amazon:thumbsup:

Nice looking watch, but it's an automatic. Can't see the appeal, myself - poor accuracy, compared with quartz, coupled with high service costs.

NICE CAPS!

Sorry To Hijack Your Thread. I'm after a ladies Rotary watch if anyone knows of any good deals

Nice, always wanted a Rotary for the collection.....

looks very german

+1

in my eyes this is a 100 quid watch...

nothing wrong with an automatic, if worn regularly it'll be as accurate, if not more so than a quartz. if you dont wear it regularly then what do you expect really.

i really like the look of the 300c, as opposed to the 300b as the subject of this deal. might treat myself before christmas, look like lovely watches

:edit: also just found out on the rotary website, the 300b is the ladies model, 300c is the gents amazon must have it slightly wrong by saying unisex. they do look very similar though, so i assume its simply the bracelet size/length thats slightly different.

Automatics are dramatically less accurate than quartz, even when worn regularly. The only way to get quartz accuracy without a battery is with a kinetic watch, which these aren't.

Servicing an automatic needs to be done pretty regularly, too, and could well cost £50 - £100.

used citizens for about 20 yrs now, one i paid 15 at cash converters for, has been serviced once at a cost of 35 incl glass polishing, no big deal and don't really need the accuracy as like most we are surrounded by clocks anyway.

thats one ugly watch

"WHT DO U THINK ABOUT THIS DEAL..."

nothing to shout about ;-)
its quite expensive for a mediocre looking watch

... meh.

COSC states -4, +6 seconds a day for certified chronometer status for automatics. Granted, this Rotary isn't COSC certified, but if you need better accuracy than -4/+6, then you need to re-assess your life :-D I doubt this Rotary will be far off that tbh, if it's been regulated.

Servicing only really needs to be done when the the time keeping drifts drastically on the watch, or there's some other issue with it, although some say best to get it done every 5 or so years. To be honest though, are you really going to bother getting a £113.75 watch serviced? I doubt it very much...

BTW, these watches were about £100 in the Goldsmiths sale last year... wouldn't be surprised if they turn up in this year's sale either.

I think this is a great starter automatic and hope that the op's Dad likes it! I am sure he will!

The fact of the matter is, if you're interested in watches (as machines, as well as telling the time) then you will probably want an automatic. If you want something on your wrist to tell the time then go for a quartz.

i can confirm that these are in ernst jones for £275 (looked at them today). look like very nice watches.

those that are calling them ugly, you can stick with your silly bling crap or casio illuminators

it's nice to see something quite subtle and stylish for once. might give my blancpain a rest for a while.

There is more to a Automatic than a Quartz Watch. Its about craftmanship and detail you can get a cheap quartz watch that will keep good time, but when you take the back off to replace the battery you will see that there is not much to it.

But that's the whole point. A decent quartz watch will be far more accurate than any automatic, and its simple mechanism needs far less (if any) servicing, and is unlikely to go wrong because it is so simple. A decent one will look every bit as good as an automatic (old and outdated technology which has been around for 80+ years) but will cost you far less in the long run.

So you think that a second hand ticking in a jerky motion every second "looks every bit as good" as a smooth sweeping second hand? Right you are :-D

Yep! I want it to tell the time accurately, not so that I can stare at the second hand and watch it going round.........:)

Well, like I say, that's fine then buy a quartz. But COSC automatics are only allowed to drift -4 seconds, or +6 seconds a day... and if that's not accurate enough for you then I'd be worried ;-)

There's a current trend in the watch world to move back to automatics, and even hand wound (!) watches. People are starting to (re)appreciate the craftsmen ship in these things.

BTW, I like watches, in case you hadn't noticed my avatar :-D

masai;7129749

thats one ugly watch

HTH can anyone call it "ugly"? I'm not saying it's the ultimate work of art, it's not a Patek Phillipe ...but it's certainly not like the over-stated pieces of " fashionable bling " made in China and embellished by some " in designer " of the moment, that get banged on here every so often.

A nice watch....a good manufacturer.... and a very good price indeed for a Rotary. I personally prefer leather straps or I'd be interested..........

As to accuracy etc..... I can live with 5-6 seconds a day if indeed it may may not lose that amount of time....

Needed a new watch Thank You

Is this any good? £25.00 delivered from Argos clearance on ebay

Ebay item no 330342966438

Much prefer this one from H samual. And it's a quartz. Don't want to keep adjusting my watch every week. And it's cheaper.

hsamuel.co.uk/web…ull

note amazon reviews on some of these rotary watches - they say you need a large wrist for these, as less easy to adjust strap small enough.

"A decent one will look every bit as good as an automatic "

i purchased the 300c watch and it came today, im very happy with it and the booklet says to service every 3 years for the lifetime guarantee to stay active, as far as im concerned, a smart watch which will last at least 3 years is well worth £113, i will probably have a new watch by then anyway :whistling:
