Just because someone buys a cheap watch, it doesn't mean that's all they have in their collection, and why would it bother you anyway? Bit of a rude comment.

Nice, I like Rotary watches I have a few
I have a similar watch to this (at least aesthetically) and it states "Dolphin Standard" on the case back, though this one doesn't have that insignia on the back. Rotary's Dolphin Standard branding confuses me a bit.

(Hm, actually, it's not that similar - I thought it had a gem on the crown, and I think that one has a Mineral Crystal - oops). Nvm.

Collecting cheap watches... okay. Why don't you just buy her one nice one?

What you pay is what you get. For this price it is a nice "fashion" watch as long as one does not expect it to last or show precise time. Once a famous military Swiss watch, is today a Chinese mass production spoiling the quality with cheap fashion pieces. I would rather stick with Casio or smg. similar for swimming & sport and "Swiss Made" for anything else, but hey, that is my personal taste. Not everybody wants a 50 000 pound Patek Phillipe. A 20 pound watch shows the time just like IWC. Besides, giving is about the act of altruism, not the monetary value. Enjoy the watch. hopefully she will like it.

Maybe she likes watches that actually work well for telling the time* rather than being intended as status symbols?
(Which to my mind automatic/manual don't - too much faff and poor accuracy.)

I bought her a Tag Heuer and an Omega about 25 years ago which she still wears around the time when I bought mine, but I still like buying her little £100 Rotary, Accurist, Citizen and Seiko's, thats why I commented here that this was a bargain for the money

The 'Ruby' caught my attention

Watch received today, its nice but it does not have the sapphire glass like the one on ebay said it has "mineral glass"

Whilst still a good price its not the bargain we thought so returning.

That's weird, the case back definitely says Sapphire Glass.. It even mentions the model number. Got that image from the argos ebay listing!!

(Edit - Now I'm at my PC. It may be worthwhile doing a Dispute. Not sure why the watch would have different specs, that's really strange).38223805-6Vf4I.jpgThere's a few (not very scientific) tests for Sapphire Crystal. One is the "water drop test".

Another is using one of those Diamond Selector II thingies (I have one, but I'm never sure if I've calibrated it properly - though this may help). Even using a (natural) fingernail if you're a woman with long nails can, at least, detect plastic from glass. "If you're using the tapping method, a sapphire will emit a low frequency sound, while tapping a mineral crystal will produce sound of a higher frequency."

Yep is so strange, it has precisely the same model number and code in brackets, but where the ebay one says sapphire glass the one received says mineral. I have sent it back as SNAD because we only bought it for the Sapphire glass. its still a good deal though.

Jeez, who knows what that's about. I'll remove Sapphire Glass from the header.
Thanks OP, just ordered ;-)

I do see the logic in what you’re saying, as in buy the watch that she wants. However, that logic only works if the recipient prefers a luxury watch and the buyer has the finances in place to meet that requirement. So basically don’t substitute the luxury watch with a cheaper alternative as the recipient will still be wanting the luxury watch.

However maybe @maxmix his wife doesn’t want a luxury watch and his purchases of 2 watches is enough for her and she’s happy with that.

As @louiselouise said your comment was unfounded without any legal basis.

I thought nurses were meant to be nice and kind?

Bargain. I’m told that Rotary are made in the same factory as Longstine watches and are technically the same but with a different brand name put on them. They look almost identical.
Bought, arrived today and more than happy. Very nice looking watch and Mrs happy. Can confirm 'mineral glass' on case but could not really expect sapphire at this price? Nice work OP.

Do you mean Longines? if so i am afraid you may be misinformed.

Longines is a quality Swiss manufacturer. Rotary is mass produced in china - or many are...

If a rotary watch says "Swiss made" in small writing at the bottom of the dial then it will generally be much better quality with swiss movements and mostly sapphire glass...

If it says "since 1885" then it is made very cheaply in china.

So some Rotary watches may be made in similar factories but this one certainly isnt.

Regardless of where it is made this is a great ladies watch for the money.

That's weird, the listing still seems to be active. There's a few anomalies with this ebay listing haha.
Slightly interesting to note that Argos have deleted that "Sapphire Glass" case back photo! Must have had a few people opening Disputes.
