The ticket prices for the RIAT are due to increase by £10 per person at the end of next week. The theme for this year is "Securing the Skies, Past, Present and Future", and there will be a special 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain 4 hour flying display and static aircraft on the Friday.

1 Day Ticket (Super Earlybird prices)
Friday £26, all children under 16 free
Saturday / Sunday £36, all children under 16 free

2 Day Ticket (Super Earlybird prices)

Friday 17 + Sunday 18 July - £52, All children under 16 free
Saturday 18 + Sunday 19 July - £62, All children under 16 free

3 Day Ticket (Super Earlybird prices)

This year they have a park and ride for £2 per person with express admission (may be worth getting as the entry queues can be large): airtattoo.com/air…bus

"Friday 17 July will be the focus for our official commemorations marking the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. Attendance on Friday will include exclusive 'pit' access to operational aircraft, their crews and engineers; this will not be available on Saturday and Sunday.

On Friday there will be a four hour flying display with the debut of a special mass flypast of historic aircraft. The Vintage Village will take on the 'Battle of Britain' theme and will be expanded to include additional static aircraft, re-enactors and a number of other 'Friday only' features.

Improvements for 2015 include opening the showground from 7.30am, entry from the Green Car Parks through the Green Entry Point with upgraded and additional buses dropping you at the nearest accessible point on the showground (approx. 2 minute journey), additional aircraft in the 'Pit Area', more of the showground open as well as the Viewing Village Grandstand for that bird's eye view!"

Last year I went for the first time and had a RIAT, there looks to be lots going on on the Friday, and the Vulcan is the first aircraft to confirm attendance for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

some companies have corporate deals and can get them for £6 cheaper - at least my employer does!

Vulcan will be there (flying!), nuff said

Don't hold your hopes up! Most likely Vulcan will be grounded again due to 'technical problems'!

Or "we just need another million pounds as we have a puncture"

Is it in Gloucestershire.? Have just been to brize norton but guess this is different to an air base!

Will there be any F-35 this year?

Only just:- RAF Fairford (Wikipedia)

get the £2 bus as traffic is an absolute nightmare on all roads around the area. Last year they split the a419/417 in half, so one lane was only for the event, which made it easier for traffic to flow easily that was going past. I live close to the A419 and travel to Cheltenham and back a lot and that weekend the traffic is horrendous. The queue for leaving and getting back to the M4, stretched back to Cricklade!

this or the Spitfire experience?

That's what I'm hoping for... they cancelled the last minute last year which I wasn't happy about as I was already on the grounds when I found out and I went just to see the F35.

Left cardiff last year at 6:30, made it into the ground at 12. Missed the chinook, Spartan, su-22 and the gripen. Wasn't going to go again this year but as the Vulcan is there must just have to.

Top local tip - Blunsdon House Hotel (decent place) directly overlooks the airbase from 4miles away, has free parking and decent food for the family. You can watch the whole thing for free without the traffic - its what I do and loads of other locals do as well. Their is even a play area for picnic where you can see the show from. RIAT is always great but the local traffic as soon as you get down Blunsdon hill is an abomination!

Fingers crossed the F-35 does display this year And - hopefully some US Air Force planes do to. Would be nice to see either the Blue Angels (US Navy Aviator display team) or the Thunderbirds (US Air Force display team).

I tend to get my tickets via the CSMA - a bit closer to the day in order to gauge the weather.

On the web site it says they are opening the gates earlier from 7.30am this year, that may help with some of the congestion. Also the £2 Park and ride may be worth doing if the bus has a route that avoids the traffic coming into the site.

I'm planning to do the same as last year, have a self-indulgent day with my camera on the Friday and then have a family day on the Saturday with the kids. They absolutely loved it last year.

Hi,

Its just a " mare " if you try the early get up and drive on show day.

Getting down on the friday before the show , catch some action at the end of the runway , camp at some the good sites very close to the base if you get a site with a " dirty field " ie the planes " buz " you they so close doing hard rights , lefts with full afterburner on.

Any body want a really good campsite recommend PM me ( i,ve been going the show since 2005 )

Great atmosphere after the Saturday show in these camp-sites ( and the village of fairford has a brilliant chippy , good curry house , and of course the bulls head pub )

As its a not farmborough year ( less aircraft new stuff so can be a bit thin on the ground ) and as the F35 showcased twice i,d expect it to show this year but it will be a " flat display "

Where is it held?

Well that's " another one " that's got the Fairford bug - Brilliant Shots by the way - what camera and lens were you using ( for certain an DSLR )

Can I ask is the Friday worth considering. Its cheaper and presumably traffic is better. Is there limited flying like Farnborough on the Friday although I went last year and it was still pretty good even though a limited display.

Hi,

Previous years on the Friday you will get arrivals ( static or flying - and when the vulcan has flown she comes in on the friday ) so what the crafty lot al the RIAT have down is make a show of it ( but of course charge money - make more ) any highlights this year ( vulcan and hopefully the F35 ) will fly Saturday Sunday ( or they may do one Saturday - one Sunday ) to try and stop people just going one day and not the next. Personally if you can only make the Friday ( park your car at a pub call the george which is a 15 mins walk - let the landlady know - she is really nice ) walk end of the runway and you get a show for free = and when they come round with the money buckets chuck a couple quid in.

Traffic wise on the friday its not to bad but know they are making a show of it it could be more busy , but now were near as mad as saturday and sunday ( 80k people per day they normally get )

Plus if you park at the george , youve got an easy out and miss any bottle necks.

Mainly used 650D with 100-400 and for wider ones 6D+24-105, if I do go this year thinking about one of those new Sigma 150-600 lenses.

Personally , if you have that size lens and not to get " more of the same " id perhaps do the park and view at ttoersdown ( get there very early as it fills up fast ) on the Saturday and Sunday ( its 10-00 - bargain ) and its completely different then being down end of runway. You will get alot of clos ups , aircraft doing hard rights with vapour of the wings , more action shots instead slow stills if that makes sense ( just as an fyi people that have very deep pockets go for the prime canon lens 300mm with an extender if used in the right light )

Heads up the early bird offer ends this evening.

Can't decide if I should go Fri & Sat or if one day is enough to see it all. Thoughts?

Hi, one day there and back is proper hardcore more so if you are driving any distance , even if you live close you have to set of mega early as compacity over the 2 days is 160k ( 80k per day )
