Oh look, stamps going up again.
I can't wait until the day it costs 10 quid to send a letter.
Should only have to wait about a year.
they will probably go up by another 2p in 2020 so really you are saving 48p
Save 24p? So if I buy 120 stamps ( I'll probably use 5 of them in the rest of my life) I'll save enough to buy a sandwich. Great deal.

A 1st class stamp represents fantastic value for money.

You will have to charge a bit more on your car washing sideline

Not really given there is no current differentiation between First and Second other than price. It is an internal RM prioritisation system, meaning that if it is a busy day they will prioritise the first class post but on a standard day there is no difference.
What a waste of money
The great thing is salaries are keeping up with the cost of living.

You could always find some other way to have them delivered.

Good luck with that.

There are people who look after the pennies - and people who don't.

There are 1 million 'pension millionaires' - and there are millions of other pensioners struggling along on basic state pension with no other pension money coming in.

I can guess which group you'll belong to

I didn't know that. I use about 150 2nd class stamps per month because they do normally get delivered the next day. Your information explains why. My mailing is all within the London area though and I just assumed that was the reason why they invariably turn up the next day.

In any case I think in general the postage service in this country is very good.

Yup always use Second class - paying for First makes little sense.
Genuinely can’t believe people can vote this hot to save 24p. I’m all about good deals but this is just stupid.
So many people moan about the cost of stamps but try delivering a letter yourself next day to an address 200 miles away for 67p,! I think you may struggle....

The real saving to be had was when the price went up from 46p to 60p in 2012.

As @OllieSt has said earlier, in most instances, second class gets there next day. If you wish to overpay for non-urgent mail, feel free!

And there are millions more who have scrimped and ‘gone without’ their whole lives to enjoy a comfortable retirement, and died before they got there, or very soon after.

YOLO.

Not much different to posts for petrol prices going down 1p/l (after going up 4p/l) - fill up and save 40p Those posts, for some reason, go hot.
At this rate, it will eventually be cheaper to charter a jet
and deliver your loved ones birthday cards in person

No wonder RM are still selling off loads of their property
portfolios & sorting offices, to make into swanky modern
apartment blocks, they are not selling any stamps at
these prices!

The PO was sold off at a loss to the British Tax payer with infrastructure etc needed intact so if they can't make a go of it something is very wrong. There isn't a viable alternative because because they held a legalised monopoly for so long which basically forbid competition in the marketplace. The PO supply a terrible service, full stop.

RM still has a monopoly on letters - they're doing just fine by upselling everything at the Post Office to unsuspecting elderly persons and share price not that far off record high.

I wasn't referring to overpaying in the first place, I was stating that so many people moan about the price of stamps when its actually a very reasonable price to deliver something to the other side of the country within 24 hours!

You were referring that there wasn't a cheaper alternative than paying for a first class stamp. That point was proved to be incorrect.

Exactly, you can save yourself 9 pence and still get that letter there the next day. So effectively, you wouldn't struggle to achieve that. Do keep up!

Do read properly!! At no point did I mention using an alternative 3rd party service to deliver it next day. I said that you can't deliver it "yourself" (for clarity that refers to you, in person, travelling 200 miles to deliver it to it's destination and putting it through a letterbox by the next morning).

But you said you would require a first class stamp for that (at 67p). I'm stating that is not true.

So if a buy my stamps wisely I could become a millionaire when I'm 5 years away from being dead? Well you have turned my outlook around a full 180. This 24p, combined with the 10p saving on 5kg of carrots I saw the other day will be the key to my life of luxury.

Yes but that is true. Going by the official Royal Mail site (not just someone saying so), 1st class aims to be there next working day and 2nd class is in 2 or 3 working days

For you to read and get the facts:
1st class royalmail.com/per…ail
2nd Class royalmail.com/per…il/

Had I have used 2nd class stamp in my initial point then I would have been factually incorrect, but I didn't. Bare these timescales in mind the next time you post something.

I don't need to read T&Cs. I use experience. There is absolutely no need to use first class stamps for non-urgent mail, especially given, as I have mentioned previously, the difference between first and second is an internal RM prioritisation system, whereby if it is a busy day they will prioritise first class post but on a standard day, there is no difference. Most of my second class mail arrives next day.
Never worked out how they separate 1st and 2nd. I know its automatic and based on machine reading but when it sees 2nd class does it then send it to a separate bin which is ignored for a couple of days?
