Royal Mail Free delivery confirmation on parcels £2.82 Click & Drop

Found 31st Mar 2017
From 27th March if you use the online click and drop facility to buy royal mail postage then delivery confirmation on parcels comes as standard. (large letters are not included).
This basically means you get enough proof for ebay etc that a 2kg 2nd class parcel has been delivered in the UK by Royal Mail for £2.82.
You have to sign up for a click and drop account and you have to pay for the labels via their website using paypal but if you are selling on ebay you likely have a paypal account anyway.
You can place your parcel in a post box if it will fit, or just hand it in at the post office who will give proof of postage if you require it.

Once you have purchased your label, it will contain a 2D barcode with a tracking number, please note this is not a tracked service, it will just give delivery confirmation notification when scanned at its destination (the same as a signed for service)

This new delivery confirmation is only available for PARCELS paid for through the CLICK and DROP website.

I know Hermes drop shop is cheaper through parcel2go but Royal Mail will be quicker, and i reckon safer for fragile items than them being thrown in the back of someones car for delivery.

They still get thrown in the back of Royal Mail vans I've seen it,but I know what you mean, the courier process is different and not great for fragile items.

No tracking is one of the reasons I stopped using RM as too many people try and claim item not received unless you pay for signed for and then you didn't always get a signature you'd check the tracking and it would say the dreaded

"Your parcel was posted at blah, blah, blah & is currently progressing through the system" arghhh
Always use My Hermes myself and they have improved vastly in the past six months or so, Parcels dropped at my local parcel shop on a Saturday afternoon are usually delivered Monday
Royal mail just playing catch up, but handy if the PO is closer for you.
I am a postman and have been delivering these 2D barcodes for a few months now.

I have to stress though when placing the 2D code onto a package, please make sure it is completely flat, not one little crinkle on it and definately not folded over a packet or it will not scan and there will be no proof of it being delivered.

I was told in the post office confirmed delivery is part of the new price on all parcel deliveries. £2.90 standard 2nd class up to 2kg. Postman now has to scan your parcel when delivered. I posted a small 2nd class parcel yesterday and there was a scan Q on the APL postage label.

you dont need a signature for paypal protection, just a form of confirmation of delivery which this service will give you which is great for this price with royal mail.

if this is true than even better, i read it only applies to click and drop but if you are correct than even better, thanks for the info - the signed for payment is now dead on parcels (unless you really want a signature)!!

Yes I know, that's what I'm saying previously on signed for it would quite often not say anything so now they have changed the system for the better.
Thanks, didn't know this. Went in PO yesterday and they never even mentioned it. Still think in some ways couriers are better, it's like pulling teeth trying to get compensation from RM whereas on a couple of lost parcels I received a refund without fuss from courier.
Parcelforce not much better, I once had to escalate to a regional manager to get £100 compensation and it took 5 months.

I'm not getting any option for 24/48 hour service that has the tracking only the standard 1st/2nd class small parcel?
I seem to have as much trouble with Royal Mail and Parcelfarce as I do with Hermes.
I mostly use Hermes because its cheaper if you need to add some insurance and also dont have to queue in the post orifice for 20 minutes.

Saturday's have been like that for as long as I can remember,I never send anything on a Friday just Saturday as it gets there at the same time.
Just to add that Standard has Up to £20 for loss or damage where as Signed For is Up to £50.

Just select 1st or 2nd you will get a code on the label which can be used for confirmation.
Drats, RM messing with my eBay scams. This means war, watch out Mr pat.

track and trace doesn't recognise the code though

It will when it has been posted. I thought this until a day or 2 after posting and it changed to "delivery confirmation for your item once delivered" rather than "code not recognised"
Does anybody know if this applies when purchasing and printing the Royal Mail Parcel Label 'via' ebay ???

I don't think so but you can (as I did this morning) link your eBay account to it.

Is this on the batch page then? https://business.parcel.royalmail.com/batch-history/
She just chucked it in the bag this morning, no scan as she didn't have a clue so I assume nothing will change until the main depot process it.
Sorry for the million questions I am used to signed for so I know they got my eBay packages.

Nothing gets scanned until it's delivered and the post man will scan the code when he either puts it through the letter box or hands it to someone. The track and trace will update as delivered a short while after that. There will be no updates on the code until this point.

Announced on ebay for sellers using online postage;

Royal Mail have recently announced the first phase of Delivery Confirmation on Royal Mail 1st & 2nd Class for Small & Medium parcels* purchased via online postage channels allowing you to now see whether the item you have sent has been delivered or attempted.

If you use the eBay label platform , eBay will automatically upload the delivery confirmation number into your My eBay. Sellers can also upload the delivery confirmation number to their sold items in My eBay. This is particularly important as we will start to use this as proof of delivery for Seller protection cases.
Thanks for posting and heat added
Thanks
I have lots of stamps to use up

can I pay most of the postage with stamps then a few pence extra at the post office to get a label wit a barcode so I get the delivery confirmation ?

You do require a signature if the item is worth more than £150...
Hermes have responded via parcel2go with a discounted rate! £2.46 including VAT up to 2kg with £20 cover included
Noticed this a few weeks back on eBay. When I buy 1st class labels through eBay, there's a ref number added to the tracking number field which you can click through to the RM website and gives ''Delivered to your address or a neighbour' which is excellent, and obviously reassuring.
Unless I'm missing something, don't you still have to join the regular queue to hand these over and obtain proof of postage? If you just leave them at the drop off point you'll not be entitled to up to £20 cover in the event of loss in their network.

Thanks for the heads up. I sell through ebay now and again and send the parcels via Royal Mail, so this will come in handy.

Afraid not.

2D scanning doesn't apply to letters and will either need to pay for click and drop or in the post office to get a 2D code on your package.
Can anyone confirm if it this applies if purchased in PO, or only click and drop?
Thanks for this, I signed up on the Royal Mail web site and it has connected to my ebay account
There seems to be some problem with buying postage from ebay or paypals postage label service, if the buyer claims they did not receive it, Royal Mail say you can only claim compensation from them if you bought the postage from a post office or from the Royal Mail Web site. This happened to me and Royal Mail told me Id have to get ebay to claim as I couldn't claim from them, when I asked ebay they said they dont do that so I got no where, luckily buyer said item turned up after a few weeks.

Also of note there is a code uploaded on ebay tracking, that they started back in February when you buy normal large letter 1st and 2nd class postage from them, but when you click on it, Royal Mail just says this service does not provide tracking, so it doesn't seem much use for either the sender or the buyer. I'm not sure if its the same but this would seem to be related to this.

think you have completely misunderstood so I will try to be more specific with a scenario

I have a small parcel i need to send which will cost £2.90

I load this up with £2.80 of my own stamps (i.e. 5 x 2nd class stamps)

I go to the post office & tell them I need to pay an extra 10p

I tell them rather than a 10p stamp that Id like a printed label (with this new delivery scan barcode)

To me it looks like something I should be able to do as long as these new barcodes are generated at post offices and not just online

also i know from previous experience its possible to get a printed label with some stamps already on the parcel as I actually done it in the past

Why is everyone so excited about getting delivery confirmation for items worth less than £20????

You do realise that only the signed for covers up to £50 and not this one.
Hi all,
I sell a bit on eBay abd use myhermes website.

What is parcelforce/ parcel to go as some of you are saying you use myhermes thru those websites?

Which one is the cheapest option for a 2Kg small / medium parcel.
