RT-80 Carbon Sram Rival roadbike - £799.99 / £819.99 delivered @ Planet X

Seems like a great price for this.

Higher spec frame than the Pro Carbon I believe, with SRAM rival groupset.

I would be buying this if I never had two Planet X bikes already.

The 2018 model of the bike I bought a few hours ago costs exactly the same as this - and it isnt even at the top of the mid range for the "budget" brand I bought.

Now I managed to grab one of the last of the 2017 spec bikes for £635; a tasty saving.

So, do you know what the difference between the 2017 and 2018 bikes is, to make the price drop for the 2017 model so high??

It is a different colour.

No poop, there is a small change to one component, but I have checked the suppliers and both cost the same within a couple of pounds.

Of course SWMBO is mad, but then I did tell her I was only going to spend about £200.......

Luckily, our couch is quite comfy.

I know, but think about it; so many people are so desperate to own the LATEST thing, that last years almost IDENTICAL thing is suddenly nearly worthless. (or 25% less valuable in this case).

Although to be fair, this isnt new, it is the principle upon which RicherSounds was founded.

£20 delivery.

you could buy a second hand car for that price. £800 and it doesn't even come with pedals!

...just kidding

Do you have to build yourself or is it included.

mind you the iPhone comes without pedals too...

I have the RT80 with Ultegra. It is a brilliant bike. You would be nearly double the price if you went for one of the mainstream brands.

For sure, I have a Rival Pro Carbon which got relegated to my winter bike as I got the Chorus Viner Mitus for just over £1k. Apart from the stock wheels, the bike is on par with my mates £2.5k Cannondale.

As I understand it, when you get to this level of equipment, pedals are a bit like ski boots, custom fitted; plus there are several different types and no one type is liked by everyone, cleats, straps. A lot of bikers even go as far as just buying a FRAME, and fitting what they what/like to it.

As for the cars analogy; my first two cars didnt add up to £800, although the 3rd WAS £800 - mainly because I bought it from a dealer.

Both plath and I were kidding - they even stated it.

For the record, my current bike didn't come with pedals, but did cost around this price too.

Actually, my first car was only £50 in 1993 and whilst they have subsequently been far more in value at various times, my previous car to my current one did actually only cost £800 and was only replaced last year after 3 years as the only family vehicle.
(I know, "cool story, bro" and all that!)

I know they were jokes, but some bikes DONT come with pedals for exactly the reasons I gave.

Yeah, my first car was £50, a rusted out old Hillman Hunter that the guy didnt realise had a racing engine in it; we got it up to 115mph IN THIRD, then chickened out.

PeeFlaps, the bike shop I ordered from has just tried a bait and switch; apparently, despite having a payment confirmation, the bike I bought is "out of stock"; but I can pre order a 2018 for a small extra fee.....

Oh well, SWMBO will be happy I havent spent over £600 on a bike.

Anyone within 50 miles of Worcester with a cheap bike for sale that will take a 150KG, 195cm rider??
