Thank you.
His cakes are bang average.
mmm
Shall we rejoice
Or pretend that was a different time? And we did not seek another’s profit from the half devil and half child ?

Take up the White Man’s burden
And reap his old reward
The blame of those ye better,
The hate of those ye guard

That's pretty mild compared to some of the stuff he said.
An exceedingly good book!

I agree we should have left them in perpetual poverty and the virtual stone age. Arrogance to think we would make any difference. Built their infrastructure and introduced rights of law. We were terrible masters apparently. Yet our aid pours in. And they clamour at the gates.

On my travels I have met many who wish we had stayed. Sad fact.

Yes and jimmy saville help those he attacked
Perhaps it was better he did not help them
Anyway my point was readers should have an idea of authors viewpoint via his poem
I am not here to take sides

The whole land grabbing happened for a single purpose
The whole of Europe was in a race
The americas Africa and Asia
The opium wars
I remember in university studying accounts of black women being raped to produce new slaves - they would have a slave black stud for this purpose
It still sickens me today
The length these women had to go to abort the babies as they knew what fate awaits their unborn children
But these facts while they should not be forgotten are for another place
But no harm in educating one another
We can not change the past but we must not ignore it either

India was just one horror story
There are many others
And if you ever study the cellular level you will understand why some people consider humans to be the most disgusting thing upon this beautiful planet

It was before the British ever arrived. But it was teeming in spices etc which will always attract those who want them but would prefer not to pay. This ridiculous tripe it was "only the British" doesn't stand real scrutiny. And not just European either. The Asian invaders weren't nice and polite either. In India itself one state would war against another.
And what this is, is blaming a writer at the time, a BRILLIANT writer and poet - for reporting what he saw and not saying what others WANTED to hear a hundred years later - like they do now.
After all - this is SUPPOSED to be about his stories and poems
Not the history of India

I prefer to call murder and rape what it is
The oppression of one human by another
There are those who do it and those who order it and those who encourage and foster opinions to create an atmosphere where it will be seen as not murder and rape
It does not matter if the oppressor is Hitler Stalin pol pot saddam Hussain ISIS al qaida IRA or those people we once held in esteem
If we close our eyes it will happen again

Yes and yes and no
We are a new generation that is not afraid of speaking the truth even against our own brothers and sisters
I ask myself will I report my child for a crime
The answer is yes

The research was completed and published by columbia University and its done from tax and trade figures that are still around for everyone to see. It's not some conspiracy theory as figures that were documented on financial /tax records are still there.

Lol. Sorry mate. Unfortunately this is the way of the rich and how the top few percent of wealthy people in the world own over 60 percent of the worlds population. These are the kind of people who will start wars but never partake. They have obscene amounts of wealth that we couldn't even fathom and wars /colonisation/banks is how its gained.

I'd say it IS a conspiracy theory.
They know this how ? Its theory. They guess at figures no less than you do.
Do they do the same for middle ages and then pass it off as fact ?
Yes. And knowing what current University mentalities are like if anything diverts from their calculations, it's ignored.
Why do you thing there are rival calculations in anything and everything ? Its what universities are all about
Only now a different opinion isn't allowed

And I repeat again - this is supposed to be for a writers book.
Why the mods have allowed it to stray so far off the subject is puzzling.
Their own rules say otherwise

Mate you may as well say the actual colonisation was also a conspiracy also. What are we basing that on? The same documents and books that were kept in the era. So maybe they didn't even go to India. Footage can be faked and so can books. So maybe the whole idea that Britain colonised India is a conspiracy? Could be who knows

I take your point and I conceded. There are pluses and minuses with different countries. On India from your evidence a big thumbs down.

I've backpacked a lot but not for sometime. Very much single yet again, I wouldn't mind India. How do they respond to the British? Suppose it may come down to the region?

You are summoning up human history. Mongol hordes from Genghis Khan to Tamerlane swept through Asia. If you look at Africa before colonialism mighty empires existed and slavery was the norm. The Aztecs, Mayans, Incas, brilliant but brutal.

Yes humans. But reduce that even further and to nature's savagery: red in tooth and claw. Yes I'm pointing my finger at the big IT upstairs and his superdoople Universe.
My post on the forgotten East African slave trade beginning from 700 AD and the link was deleted. Just look it up.

Most areas are good some areas are amazing but remember poverty breeds crime - think of any areas in the world South Africa shanty towns Brazil favelas and mumbai slums
But then again I know many areas in London I would be careful at night time

Mother Teresa was considered a goddess

You are right and that is why people everywhere are raising awareness
From girls in Afghanistan to what they did to the house where hitler was born
People are raising awareness in their own country
People are pointing out the past
So the future is not the same

No - it was mainly because the French, Portuguese and Russians were moving into India. If they weren't likely they'd have stayed out too
If you note, it was the East India Company rather than Britain. All names, I agree but I believe it was after the Indian Mutiny it became straight out "Britain" which can't disagree it always had been. But if not Britain, it would have been France. Or Russia.
Could have been a LOT worse. It could have been Spain. And look what they did to Central and South America - which had even more stuff to entice conquests. And up to 95% of indigenous people were wiped out by them.

But you got your figures same way as I'd get mine. Through other people or the internet - and you'll always get "sources" who agree with you. You're entitled to your view, as I am with mine.

And for the last bloody time - THIS IS OFF TOPIC MODERATORS. YOU ARE BREAKING YOUR OWN RULES.
Its about a book about a brilliant writers works. NOT politics in the far east
