The Classwiz is more suited for A level college. I'd say the OP's calculator is better suited for GCSE O level high school. That said if you don't want the expense of having to buy 2, then by all means get the classwiz.

Good deal ..late for me as I had to buy one for my son two days ago and paid £13

This was briefly £1.40 last week but they removed the listing before I could post it on here.

There is a different, and superior calculator that is now recommended by many schools - and is approved for exam use. I managed to get one on Amazon for £15 a few months ago. Classwiz Casio fx-991EX. So if you don't actually need a calculator at the moment, but are buying ahead for secondary school or exams - personally I would wait and watch for the Classwiz to come back down in price. Certainly my son has found that it is superior to the normal Casio from Year 9 upwards.

Canary All-in-One Home Security Device UK £99.99 at Ryman

I already have one of these and am looking to add another- works well for me. Currently £158 at Amazon. It does require a subscription (which covers up to 5 devices) to unlock so… Read more

sorry don't know if there is a HUKD group, but to be honest I would just go to the wider internet communities - I have chosen Smartthings and would stick with the links for that (above). As said Smartthings is not necessarily the easiest you can go for a simpler approach or go more complicated but then you get more from it, for example I have a house with an old wired alarm with sensors etc , I didnt want to replace all those sensors etc but for a few pounds (less than 30) I can connect that to Smartthings and interface to all those sensors etc as well. See... https://konnected.io/

Appreciate you taking the time to explain and share links. I was getting prices based on the Amazon promoted gadgets from big named brands, I'm unversed in gearbest etc and the chinese brands. Is there a HUKD group/forum for smarthome discussion? I've only used the deals section of the site. Would be good to keep up to date with new gear and get more tips.

oh and there's no subscription charge etc - although obviously if you say combine it with a Ring doorbell or otehrs then there may be a price there

Depends where and when you buy the items I guess, the thing with Smartthings is it's compatible with lots of products. Hub £100 (often on offer at Currys or Amazon ) , motion sensors I use Xiaomi - typically I paid around £7 per sensor because I wait for the sale every couple of months but here are some examples... Motion sensor for £11 https://www.gearbest.com/alarm-systems/pp_659226.html?wid=1433363 Door/WIndow sensor £6 ! - I have these all over my house Xiaomi Aqara Window Door Sensor Wireless switch that you can programme to do what ever.... £6 https://www.gearbest.com/access-control/pp_626695.html TEmperature sensor £12 https://www.gearbest.com/access-control/pp_626702.html There are lots of camera brands to choose from - I use Foscam because already had some.... This one is £44 but can get other brands for less etc https://www.amazon.co.uk/Foscam-C1-Camera-Wireless-Detection/dp/B00T7NX6SY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1530908925&sr=8-3&keywords=foscam PLus smartthings works with IFTTT hence a myraid of smart plugs and lights ... so if a sensor 'sneses' somethign you can programme an action etc. So for 2 cameras and 2 motion sensors and hub - could prob do that for around £230ish (prob much less with shopping around) Plus once you have the hub then the multpplier on that to add more cameras etc is much less - think how many extra door/window and motion sensors etc up to £400 ish And there is SO much more - compatible smoke detector for £22... so if the alram goes it can turn your lights on, trgger your house alarm send a text message etc https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/xiaomi-honeywell-zigbee-smoke-detector-2202-at-banggood-2938482 Works with Google & Alexa etc... and loads more.... Just look at all the deals on hotukdeals for compatible kit... for example.... https://www.hotukdeals.com/search?q=xiaomi+zigbee https://www.hotukdeals.com/search?q=smartthings&page=2 so yes possiblities are endless it is very flexible but you must decide what you want it to do and put the time in - hence it's not for everyone

Am I missing something? Have been looking into smartthings as I'm genuinely interested but it certainly doesn't seem to be any cheaper? To replace the two canary setup I use at home I'd need the hub, two cameras and two motion sensors right? That's the best part of £400! Then alarms as well? And do all of these items potentially need separate power sockets (depending on placement?) I like the all in one unit that canary provides. I get that there's no subscription fees with smartthings and that there's scope to add a lot more features to create a true smart home but to tear the canary down on price seems a bit unfair. The units are quite often on deals such as this for £100 and work well in my experience. Plus there are occasional deals on the subscription fee itself. I guess it boils down to what your individual requirements are. I might still go down the smartthings route at some point once I've got my head round it a bit more. But canary satisfies my current needs right now and is very simple to set up and use.

I got their BIC 4 Colours Pot of 6 varieties last time for £4.50, so cool pity they don't do it anymore.

Any adults looking for decent versions of these with more standard colours, I can't recommend these enough: http://s.aliexpress.com/IN77ZBR7 A finer point on these, more like a technical drawing pen. Wish I had these for my dissertation.

I thought Aquafresh were doing pens their for a minute

Looks like it's 6 different ones. 3 normal colours, one normal colour but "shiny", and 2 "girly" colours.

Handy having 6 of them, from personal experience this is surely the most "borrowed" pen that's least likely to be ever seen again!

Jawbone as a company has gone bust and the app is no longer working.

Don’t bother. Bought one ages ago from b&m. The app is trash and the strap broke after a few weeks of light use.

I can’t find this tracker

The problem with this is it's a real pain to sync with your phone and it suddenly fails to sync requiring a fresh install of the app,the tracker (hard reset with battery out) and then crossing fingers, praying, waiting for a full moon til it resyncs. Great 90% of the time and an absolute nightmare 10% of the time which is why it's dropped from 40 quid to 5 quid.

I have that T-shirt as well... the number of 'backup portable hard disks' people bring me that have years of photos that are stored nowhere else is unbelievable, and I literally have no idea why when Google Photos does free storage if you enable compression (which has shown to be nearly imperceptible) as well as many others that may be easier to use but still cheap. Common sense is definitely lacking when it comes to these magic boxes of PCs and removable storage...

As an (nerd) IT support technician in a previous life I learnt a few things... in the case of looking after important files, for example using portable media only to transport them, not as their permanent and only storage place, common sense is not as common as you'd think ! (poo)

Good advice but I imagine most people just use them for transporting things quickly not long-term storage. Hope not anyway!

Maybe a good price but... REMEMBER TO BACK-UP !!!! These things are notorious for becoming damaged or corrupt.

If the Intel is the I3- 7100u, there is no definitive answer. It depends what you use it for. For single core processing the Intel is better, for multimedia use the AMD with its better graphics processor is better. If it is the latest I3-8250 then the Intel wins hands down The overall performance taking all factors is about the same. Both only suitable for gaming with the minimum settings at 1080 graphics and probably not for the newest games. Both have similar power draw, but Intel allegedly runs cooler.

Sounds good. Can anybody say how this would compare against an i3 processor in real usage please?

u can use the printer for scan/copy/print whatever feature but the ink cant be from HP subscription.. i believe the ink from HP is specially designed so that the printer can identify it and stop you from using the ink when your not subscribed.. what i do is i print oncr in a while,so instead of susbscribing and paying monthly i order ink from ebay and that’ll allow me to use it

How can they do that? Can you not even Copy anything from the scanner? Unless they sent some code the chip on the ink cartridge
