Thanks for the code used it to buy a 3600x and Tomahawk Max for £278
Urgh. I don't need to pull the trigger on this. I'm running a 4770K and a 1080 with 16gb ram. I'm literally absolutely fine, but the dark powers of Cyber Monday are pulling me in...

Have you tried returning something to Currys? It's a nightmare.
All I need now is some ram 32 preferable and that's me. Any recommendations?

The Corsair LPX range is usually on offer and hides nicely in the case because it's freaking tiny. Make sure to get above 3000Mhz RAM though. Ryzen needs the faster speeds.

Genuine question but I’m running an i5 4690k in my Setup. I plan to rebuild soon and upgrade the graphics card. I am very much only a casual gamer... I’ll be playing through my TV at 1080p. Is it worth upgrading to this? I plan to rebuild in a new case soon but the only thing I was gonna change was the graphics card and maybe get a 500gb NVME SSD.

Not from my experience but you'll get bad service most places now and again.
And chances of getting a dud CPU are pretty low.
Point being if you can get it cheaper then it's not really a deal

Returned TV to Currys 2 months ago... it was delivered as faulty (black lines on the screen)... full refund within 10 minutes of bringing TV back to the store. Btw TV was £999.00

This is a lot better than 4690K, BUT.....this price is not acceptable.
A 3600X should be around £150 to be considered a good offer.
These are good chips, but if you're gaming, not much better than an older 2600. And in 1, 2, 4 and 8 core stress tests, only 21% faster than the 2600 which can be had for about £110.
So if you're looking to upgrade an older machine, no need to spend this much on the CPU unless you have cash to spare.

You really need 32? Is it for gaming or something actually memory heavy. Cause if it's gaming, 16GB is still more than enough.

16GB is fine if you don't mind games swapping to pagefile. With GPU's having 8GB and more VRAM, and a lot being consumed, it takes a large chunk of address space.
It's definitely the minimum for gaming in my opinion, but I can see why someone would want 32GB if you afford it.

Rubbish. It’s still pretty new in its life cycle. This price is decent enough for an X SKU. 6 months from now, £150 will be a bout right. This at £200 still delivers a lot more all round performance that a similarly priced Intel offering.

If you can find an advert that states every product is legally bound to offer a huge Cyber Monday discount. You should take it to the ASA and demand action.

Games are using more and more graphics assets, but even when I've played modern games on high settings like Destiny 2, Crackdown 3, Division 2, GTA5 etc, biggest I've even seen a game get in RAM is about 7GB. And with windows and various other things running in the background the whole use has been about 11GB of RAM. By the time you need 32GB we will probably be on DDR5. Only machine I have that uses a lot of RAM is my old i7 media PC from years back. And that's just cause the SSD uses a dynamic RAM cache.

Even GPU memory doesn't get used THAT heavily in a lot of games. I mostly see about 3.5GB used with most games on high. Only one I saw use significantly more is Crackdown 3 for some reason. Though obviously with that it depends heavily on the game and the res. As I mostly game in 1080p, and only play stuff in 4k that's generally slower paced like Divinity: Original Sin.

Holy crap, really? Why? I'm guessing it's using loads of huge res textures, or has masses of textured models on screen at once. That's pretty crazy.

You're off your rocker. The fact that you can buy a 6c12t CPU as fast as this for under £200 these days is incredible enough in itself. If you think this is overpriced, name a better CPU for the same money. Intel chips need not apply.

I think £190 is a good price for this but I can see that in comparison to the 2600 it seems a lot. For gaming with the average card you won't see a huge increase, especially at 1440p.
But this is new and the X version with better cooler so I think it's worth the money.

For the 3600, there was no price drop for Black Friday. Just an increase during the week from £180 to £190. For Cyber Monday OOS. Same for Tomahawk Max - increased by £10 and also now OOS. Combo was £250 pre Black Friday. Want a pair of each so £500 not spent. Let's see what the New Year does to prices.

PS the Currys' deal is £270 for 3600 and £280 for 3600X. Tempted but still not £250 so I'll wait and also look at Intel.
Currys seem to offer 20% / up to £80 cashback on Quidco. Would that make the 3600x 160 or is there a catch ? Eg cashback on spend before vat ?
