That's rrp not a deal

Just why.

You say it performs similarly... on a synthetic result. Good job!!!

Just because it's RRP it's not excellent value? Some people may not have heard about it yet.

Are benchmarks out? Anything impartial?

On at least 5 different benchmarks it performs within 10% of the 6900k

Only the synthetic ones AMD have done, but nothing for gaming, etc.

It's likely they WILL be good, but it's still a chance to take.

It wouldn't surprise me if you knew nothing about computers and you're just someone who thinks they do.

amazing how the USD and GBP prices are the same, anyone for price fixing ?

US prices exclude sales tax. UK prices include it. When you change USD to GBP it's about right.

Can't wait for in-depth gaming comparison with these. See how they cope with IPC demands. Not too fussed about encoding as the 16 threads shouldn't have any issues.

This isnt the 6900k beater/matcher

The high end one is the 1800x

It's surprisingly close to the 1800X, and can overclock to close the gap within 200MHz I would guess. (The 1800X is binned for better OC)

I am always a bit weary about gaming benchmarks especially nowadays, as they tell you more about your graphics card than your CPU in that use case.
I'm sure a nvidia 1080 with a i7 may not have that much variance than a lesser i3 or i5. yes I know it will be different with some games like watchdogs 2.

C'mon easy now with these 'deals'

The GBP tanked against the USD last year, as stated by another even with sales tax is about right. I remember the good old days of 2:1 but something must have happened recently to really devalue our currency.

Was more going for 'THIS EXISTS' than this is a great deal over RRP. Was always going to go cold lol

Also did you just link LTT video as a source of credible info?.... Ouch X)

Look at gaming reviews showing AMD vs Intel in games made with DX11. You'll see what I mean about IPC. Of course if you're playing a UHD resolution and the highest settings it'll be a bit different.

The Ryzen 7 1700 doesn't perform similarly to the i7-6900K. The 1700 is the base model of the Ryzen 7 series, comparing performance wise to a i7-6800K. The 1700X which is priced similar to the 6800K is the one that performs closed to the 6900K, and the 1800X is the one that matches the 6900K for less than half the price.

In short, do not buy this CPU and be disappointed when it doesn't match the performance you expect because you ordered the wrong one!

In short, this will still perform within 10% of a 6900k, and it can be overclocked too. The OC headroom I suspect will be only a few 100 MHz below the 1800X, due to binning etc

Fair enough but anything RRP doesn't go down well here generally.

Tbh I wasn't hyped for Zen at all until today, it does seem like it will indeed be awesome... BUT marketing is a powerful thing, we need real world independent reviews first. For example see 9:39 on the LTT video you linked, he makes a valid point that lets's hope isn't too significant.

Just built with a 6700k that I bought for 230 from CEX. I have no regrets...Still overclocked way faster at 4.6ghz

What games are going to benefit from this 8 core cpu? Spend half the money on a current Core i5 quad core and put the rest towards a better GPU surely?

Potentially if these have insane IPC and single thread performance then they could be the new gaming messiah, not to mention multi-core support becoming more prevalent in games BUT (and it's a big BUT) this needs to be verified independently first

Mate unless you've literally tested this on every single game yourself and have hands on experience with it, why are you trying to pitch it to us like you have and telling us percentages and estimations like you really personally know. X)

The truth of the matter is you don't even know what your talking about. All you know is as much as everyone else, with regards to synthetic benchmarks, leaks and games that were selectively chosen by AMD to showcase their CPU in the best possible light. X)

Games that uses cutting edge engines, (ie not rubbish engines used in games like Fallout 4), games like Battlefield 1 (Frostbite) can make use of 8+ threads.

Intel i5 may get slaughtered by the Ryzen 6 core (12 thread) chips which may turn out to be the best bang for buck chips available.

Because they can cherry pick so many benchmarks and have them all be spectacularly wrong. That's why I was rather conservative with my 'within 10%' guess.

I can beat your price Same model £262.99, £315.58 inc VAT @ PC World business. No you do not have to be a business to buy from here.
While we are all wondering about true performance, Intel have stated for their next CPU i.e 8000 series, "We will increase clock speeds by 15%". Basically saying AMD caught us out we thought Ryzen would be crap. So we sat on our hands, and we got nothing. Call Mikey D now! We got some ####-competitive deals he might be interested in.

The i7-7740K is being released by Intel as a direct response to Ryzen.
