Any suggestions on a motherboard and ram for this cpu please? Thanks

Wow, Black Friday starts early

Get the 1700 if anything and save £100, cooler and should clock to at least 3.8GHz

Amazing price! I paid £419.99 back in August.

I paired it with a GIGABYTE GA-AB350-Gaming 3 motherboard and Corsair CMK32GX4M2A2666C16R Vengeance LPX 32 GB RAM.

Unfortunately DDR4 prices continue to skyrocket. That RAM is £85 more expensive than it was in August!!! So I'd only save about £28 in total if I was buying it all now.

Bargain for a great chip!! Prices just keep going down atm, will have to shoot for a new rig real soon!

What a fantastic price for a great chip!

Gutted would love this I've had a 1700x since launch and it's paired with a MSI x370 carbon and since day one some times I get 3 beeps at boot and a reboot and it does this upto 4 times before booting, MSI say it's a failed overclock on the ram which is running at 2933mhz it's Corsair led 3000mhz. I'm very annoyed as it was a £189 motherboard which was made for overclocking yet its struggled running the ram at 3000mhz and because of this I've not bothered overclocking it, I'm thinking of cutting my losses and getting another board because originally I had ordered the Gigabyte gaming k7 but there was no stock anywhere or going back to Intel and getting a i7. BTW the MSI x370 carbon is £139.99 at Amazon and it's a beautiful board and cheaper than ever, if anyone has any suggestions on stopping this annoying beeping I'd appreciate the help, I've tried upping the voltage to I think 1.375 I shouldn't go any higher.

Your 4 core won't be as competitive in a couple of years as games push more cores for best effect. That's ok if you don't mind re-investing in a newer MB/CPU at that time (plus time to do all that (windows reinstall?)), but for me I want not only bang for buck but also something that will be current for longer. Selling or handing down to your kids an 8 core v 4 core is a no brainer, it just has more long term value.

Have you updated to the latest BIOS? There really should be no problem running that kit at 2933MHz with the latest one. However, unfortunately it's not really the right kit for Ryzen and you'll struggle to get it much higher than that. The ICs on your sticks will be dual rank and made by SK Hynix, both of which are things that Ryzen's memory controller doesn't like. To achieve higher speeds, you need to be using sticks with Samsung B-die ICs in single rank (which means there are only chips on one side of the PCB). These generally have tighter timings and are more expensive. Increasing voltage won't change anything for this particular issue, so don't crank it up for no reason.

Do keep in mind that this is an overall platform quirk - changing your motherboard won't help. Updating to the latest BIOS should allow you to boot without a struggle though. The latest one is from last month and is available on the page for the board on MSI's site. It may even let you boot at 3066MHz, which many people have reported success with using Hynix kits with more recent AGESA updates (which is AMD's base microcode that companies base their BIOS from).

Antecs triple aio is £58.99 at Amazon the cheapest aio system ever and would be ideal to cool this I have a deepcool 240 setup and I've ordered one it's just stupid cheap.

but in a couple of years we will have next gen(s) of Intel and AMD so moot point.

At this moment in time clock speed is still king still 99.x percent of games out there do not utilise multi-threaded setups efficiently.

The 3.8Ghz overclock is attainable with the in box cooler. With a beefier cooler most reach 4.0Ghz, some 4.1.
The 1800X is certainly easier to get the extra performance. However they won’t clock any better as has been found on many reviews.
In short buy what you want but you can save money and attain most of the performance if you feel capable.

I'm still trying to figure out if the core i7-7700k is better as its gaming performance is better than this. It also costs around £270 on e buyer

That's a bad comment. I'm changing i7 and mb as soon as it's worth it. I upgrade only when it's worth it and I don't rule out ryzen later on. Why do I want older tech? I sell it on on next upgrade

It really doesn't matter, it's just benchmarks ultimately, they both run games more than good enough. What matters is the total cost of your build and which is cheaper to build. Another argument is the extra threads if you can utilise the workload.

Any pre coffee lake Intel chip isnt worth considering. The price (rrp) and spec of coffee lake says it all
AMD caught Intel with there pants down.

Comparing the R7 and 7700 is like comparing an i3-6320 to a I7-4790 in terms of performance. yes, ones fast. The other one just does much more. much easier.

This deal should be expired as its back up to £376.

Expired on both Amazon and Ebuyer sadly

Well, I just received a RYZEN 7 1700X. Replacement requested from amazon. Bad times.

Did anyone manage to get this for the £306.99 price?

Not yet as they sent me a RYZEN 7 1700X, sent back. I still have a replacement order pending for the 1800X when its back in stock at amazon. Will be watching prices closely until then though. Running a Ryzen 5 1600 at the moment which is fine but I thought that £306.99 was too good a price to pass on.
