Bad reviews about overheating....
Ordered, Thanks OP.
Decent price but the external HDDs are normally cheaper than the internal ones at higher capacities anyway.

Out of what proportion of reviews complain about this or are you being hyperbolic?

It is the drives that are overheating, not this unit. The drives are having to work so hard during the clone that they will get hot.
I've got a very similar one of these at work. One of the best things I've ever had purchased for my office.

Hdds will get hot as the drives have metal spinning discs in them. You don't normally notice this as they are inside something...
The cloning feature is amazing for copying an old HDD onto an SSD drive.
Can also be useful having 2 extra HDDs attached.yoy your pc at the same time.
This looks fine BUT fideco make a smilar with extra USB ports and a TF card slot. YMMV.
As to the disc overheating .. dont put 7200rpm drives in or at least put them somewhere with a cool breeze.(desk fan?)
7200rpm will perform better but run quite a bit hotter than 5200/5900rpm drives.
Discs can also spin down if not used ....
good price maybe buy one

Could this be used with a PS4?
Was getting the same "Sorry. You are not eligible for this voucher." message.
Added to basket, and voucher can be applied at checkout.
Great item! Does anyone know this one and inateck, which one is better
No sign of a voucher for me. Am I being stupid?
Gone. 1-3 months delivery for Amazon prime.
Don't see any voucher code - and im logged in.
Voucher offer was there, then it gave me a message saying not eligiible.
Can't get it to reappear, or see an option at the checkout.

Tried a different browser in case it was cookie related, but it seems to be gone for good

Think I'm too late, can't see the voucher on the page, good deal for those that were quicker than myself, still voted not though
This is a weird one. It showed a 40% voucher when in my basket but I couldn't redeem/activate it and then I had to sign in again and it was gone. Oh well.
Expired
Too late again, no voucher for me either
"Not eligible for this voucher", dangit too slow?
Too late as well
Bought thanks Gutted I wasn't able to get the other one for £6 so this will do

I take them out of their enclosures and stick them on a Dock like this
Novice, when it comes to these docking stations that is... Is there a cost/ efficiency benefit to going this route over using the usual desktop portable external hard drives when working at home (I imagine they aren't quite so fun to travel with)?

My general use is for photo and video storage and editing via final cut, for example, on a macbook air.

Nope. It's usually cheaper to buy disks that are already inside enclosures, then rip them out of the enclosure if you just wanted the bare disk.
In your case I'd just look at buying an easystore etc.

I bought a similar one to this as I wanted to thoroughly check some disks before I put them into a NAS. Also handy if you need to clone a disk.
