Sagem 160Gb DVR Freeview recorder Sainsburys £29.35

Found 19th Mar 2009
I have just bought a Sagem DVR 6200T for £29.35 (after VAT reduction) from my local Sainsburys (Leamington Spa).

OK, it's not the best DVR in the world but it's an excellent price for a twin Freeview tuner with a 160Gb hard drive!. You could pay that much for the hard disk alone!

The model number on the side of the box is:-
DVR 62160SL-T UK 160 Gb Hard disk drive

I'm there too with 10 more in the queue behind us so Dale4020 you're already too late! ;-)

arrrrrrrrrgh i must be missing something its now been a few days in a row that i go to Sainsburys and dont see these deals then miss out.

I will never buy another Sagem product again after the fiasco with the earlier Freeview DVR's (72160T in my case) where a firmware update left the device with an almost non-functional EPG, and then Sagem simply dropped any further support so lots of owners were left with a useless piece of junk. Not only that but it was extremely unreliable, shutting down by itself regularly until I took it apart to find the hard drive power connector hadn't been soldered in.

so-so review via link below, but for this price I am sure all will be forgiven.
let's hope it is widely available!

agreed

I guess you have to weigh up the pros and cons....Sagem are never going to win any awards for their products, but it's got to be worth taking a chance for 30 quid, it will come with a warranty after all.

At this price?!?! Get real man!

Great price, if it really sucks you could always just bust it open and put the HD to good use.

I do have to comment that this is some of the worst packaging I've seen recently.

I want an "add heat" button on my keyboard. Until then I'm mouse clicking this one up into the red.

good price

Spending the night outside a sainsburys in a sleeping bag to save £50. Think I would pass on that one.

Good price for what it is, even if Sagem don't set the world on fire.

HDMI would be wasted on a Freeview box as the FV signal is SD and thus you may end up with a worse picture than scart.

My Humax 9300 has an HDMI connection and the picture through it is very good.

We've a NEW Sainsburys local in 8 minutes ! Sorry irrelevant really

So what's the box like Maxime? Especially the EPG and Sky+ type recording where you select the program from the list?

Is it user friendly? Easy to use, understand etc?

None in Hull (well, Hessle - thats where our 'big store' is). Saved me a 10 mile round trip !

I have the 250gb version of this box & my mother-in-law hast this 160gb version. It's excellent, for this price it's one of the hottest deals I've seen on here for ages (along with the sat nav one yesterday.) The epg is very good and yes it's a bit like sky+ from what I've seen as in you can do series record ect. ect. Check what firmware version you have when you boot it up as the old firmware locked up when you tried to do a series record from channel 4 & more 4 but the new one works fine.

I'm at work now but will be able to confirm version number tonight if anyone wants to know - only problem here is you have to wait for sagem to broardcast the update there is no way to install it manually.

The first box I had didn't pickup any chanells at all but argos swapped it and the 2nd one worked fine - I've had it about 6 months now so if your doesn't pick up anjy channels don't take any of the it must be yoru aireal ****

Anyway defo very user friendly.

worto.

Could someone with it let us know how subtitles work? My dad needs them, and I saw a mention of them not staying on when the channel's turned? what do you do to turn them on / off? and any other weird issues (apparently they're blue on itv??). Thanks.

Saves me a trip, thanks.

Be aware a lot of SAGEM PVR's suffer from the 'Split Nit' issue and Sagem are rubbish at issuing firmware updates (particularly for the 62** series). If the 'Split Nit' issue arises in your area you will lose half of the channels and have to wait months for Sagem to rebroadcast an OTA firmware update.

I have been waiting since January for a rebroadcast for my 6240T and it doesn't look like it'll happen any time soon :-(

Anyone know if theres any in the North East?
I'm at work so I can't ring to check.
