Pretty good spiced rum a couple of quid cheaper than the usual offers. This is sometimes packaged in limited edition cardboard tubes around this time of year so worth checking your local store.

Personally, after becoming somewhat of a rum connoisseur during 2019, I'd avoid this one. Its one of the worst spiced rums that I've tasted, even taking into account the price, lacking character, warmth and not even that great as a mixer.

Captain Morgan's is better for the same money. Far better for only £1 more is Seadog rum at Aldi.

Captain Morgan’s smells of nail polish remover 😳

Each to their own of course but captain morgan is my least favourite spiced rum by far. It was better before they changed the recipe in 2013, but only just!!

Not tried seadog so might give that a go.

Another one that I haven't tried yet which is supposed to be quite good is Cut to the Spice. I think that's on offer in Asda at the moment.

I wasn't saying that it's a good rum by any account. Just that it's better than this for the same money.

Old J's better than both by a long shot.

Kraken beats them all (albeit its a dark spiced rum)

Old J is supposed to be based on the original Sailor Jerry's recipe before they changed it. I quite like it too, a lot sweeter and with a hit of lime!

You're a 'run connoisseur' and are recommending Captain Morgan spiced rum? :/ Their standard dark rum is perfectly decent(though nothing special), but the spiced rum is one of the most artificial tasting rums you can buy. Sickly sweet. Sailor Jerry is a fair bit better in my opinion(and I'm surprised anybody would feel otherwise), though the European version isn't as good as the 46% original.

To each their own, though.

Just avoid Bacardi Oakheart at all costs. It's more a terrible liqueur than a rum. The worst rum I've ever had, even worse than any generic stuff I've had.

The 'connoisseur' reference was a tongue in cheek comment to be fair. 😝

As someone said above, taste is subjective. Captain Morgan's isn't bad. I've had numerous bottles of it which I've simply used as a mixer with a quality brand of cola. I wouldn't drink it straight. With that said, I've tried worse options out there that have been notably more expensive. Costco's Kirkland spiced rum is good example of this.

I'm currently enjoying a bottle of Pineapple Grenade which someone bought me for my birthday today along with a glass. Possibly the best rum I've tasted. 65% ABV though so it will blow your head off!!!

I looked all over Glasgow city centre about 15 years ago trying to find this for my brother when it wasn't as well-known. Finally found it in an independent off-sales (and got scalped). Think my brother prefers Kraken now
At just above this price point I prefer Red Leg usually on offer somewhere for £16ish

Has anyone tried their Caramelised Pineapple variety?

No, but I will be at some point.

The standard Red Leg is an excellent buy at £16. It tends to be £20 in the supermarkets and regularly is reduced to £18. I think I may have purchased it once for £15. Its a very moreish drink... 🍷👌

Just checked and it is £16 on Amazon and Asda have it for £17, I think it was £16.50 in Tesco or Sainsbury very recently, lovely drop of rum for the price. Will be interested to hear what the Pineapple one is like.

Tesco often do it for £15 which is when I usually stock up.

And yes I've had the pineapple one. Very nice indeed.

Yea fair enough man.

And strong rums are great. I've recently discovered Woods Navy Rum(57%) and it's probably my new favorite rum. Tastes like liquefied sugar cane and toffee. Amazingly drinkable completely neat. Affordable, too.

Will have to look out for Pineapple Grenade on sale.

I've heard good things about Woods and have definitely started to appreciate the darker rums. This was probably helped by a recent all inclusive holiday where the waiters would only serve it by the glass full.
