Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum - 70cl - £9.56 @ Tesco Express

Found 27th Nov 2012
Sailor Jerry spiced rum available in two local Tesco Express stores for £9.56, which seems a lot lower price than normal.

It's still showing as £18.40 on the main Tesco site and is on offer for £16.00 as of tomorrow, so £9.56 seems a very nice price! I don't know if the main Tesco stores have it at this price.

Will have to drop in on my way home, thanks
I shall be visiting my nearest Tesco Express tomorrow.

And tut tut to you for not getting your club points with your purchase.

There was only one bottle in each of the two stores I went to, still not sure why it would be so cheap as it's a well know spirit and sells well as far as I know.
Great price, but its needle in haystack time again.

Are they known for having very localised deals in Tesco?
I picked up a bottle for £14 last night from Tesco Yiewsley. Would of been nice if it had been this price!

It has been known X)
Just rang Tesco Express Bournemouth (The Triangle) and they had them in stock at this price and they all sold out damn fast. So legit deal if you can find it.
Raging my city ain't got an express close by. I got a bottle in the main shop for £14. It came in a kind of cardboard packaging tube with a mini poster of a tattooed woman inside.
just got 2 bottles from gateford worksop 2 left on shelf behind counter..... nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good to see it's available elsewhere.
I will be checking the Tesco Express in the morning hopefully this is available in Belfast, this is a complete steal at that price, the best i have ever saw it at was around £15 in Asda on offer

I'd agree. I actually saw it on the shelf last night but the label next to it was moved over slightly so it looked like it could have been £19.56 with the first bit covered. When I was in there earlier it had been straightened so showed the full label and I swooped!
How does this compare to capn morgans?
Great price!!! HOT! £14 in Tesco Extra Parkhead, Glasgow if any good to anyone:)
This has been disgusting since they changed the recipe, you can barely even taste the spice anymore.

Captain Morgan is better, yet still crap. Kraken is currently the best spiced rum on the market, though it is twice the price, but worth it in my opinion.
Never tried the previous version so can't compare, do like it's current incarnation though. Great price above, got my last bottle on offer from Asda on the way home from work. Get home to find the missus had been in earlier and also bought a bottle, result

Gotta agree on Kraken though, if I'm feeling flush I will buy that.

Thanks for the recommendation - I'm going to have to look out for that as I've never heard of it before but just noticed that apparently it's on offer at Sainsbury's at the moment (£17.49 for 75cl). It's a really nice looking bottle if nothing else.
this is horrible compared to the old recipe and what they used to sell in weatherspoons!

Yeah it's rubbish now.

Used to be a brilliant rum for the price when it hints of vanilla and cherry. Now it just tastes like any old cheap rum.

Funny that they call it 'the original' but it isn't the original!

Now it is mentioned I seem to recall reading about there being a couple of recipe changes at some point and certain bottles being sold online for decent amounts. I wonder which ones it is?
So it looks like they are actually right calling it 'the original'!

There was an original US recipe, then there was a UK recipe, then in 2010 they reverted to the US recipe which annoyed most people.

I suspect the bottles which currently sell well are from the UK recipe period.
Anyone not in the know, looking for the old recipe search for "Old J"

Funny you should mention that as I was just reading a few sites and a lot of the comments seem to be the same.

Apparently one of the guys who used to work for First drinks, who own SJ, was involved in the development of Old J.
This should have been boycotted when they ruined the recipe!
Not such a good rum good since they changed the formula but cheap enough
I just ordered myself a bottle of Elements 8 spiced rum which cost me £30, has anyone every tried it? if so what are your thoughts?
sigh. here we go again. it isnt rubbish just cos you dont like the taste. For those who like the original recipe (before it was sweetened) then this is a pretty damn good deal.

dont like dont buy, simples!

I don't think anyone said it was a bad deal. I actually found the negative comments quite useful for getting a few suggestions of other products to try.
It's all down to preference. I prefer the current taste of it, and at this price it's a bargain if you can get it. I've tried most spiced rums out there, like kraken, captain morgan's spiced, oakheart (barcardi), etc. Another nice one is surprisingly Lambs spiced. Has anyone tried foursquare or elements eight?
A nice price if you can find it. Personally I don't like it anywhere near as much as I used to. I have tried Old J and it really is similar to the original Sailor Jerry taste. Unfortunately I haven't seen old J in the supermarkets yet.

I'm off to Sainsbo's then!

Came here to post that, Sailory Jerrys is bad since the change of recipe and that Kraken is the best 'cheap' spiced rum out there! Gladly spend the extra £8 for the £17.50 offer for Kraken at Sainsburys vs this.

Good deal if you like the current Sailor Jerry's though!
£19+ at my Tesco Express.
Bought 4 bottles of this yesterday at my local co op for £8 a bottle, the place was closing down so selling everything off including all wine @ £2 a bottle, quite a few stores closing at the moment so worth keeping an eye on them.
