As title I found these in-store today:
Sainsbury TU Square Black 12 piece Dinnerware Set a massive 70% off reduced from £35 to just £10.50. The set contains 4 main, 4 side and 4 dessert as you would imagine. They are made of porcelain and are microwave and dishwasher proof.
They can also be bought seperately as individual pieces but the set saves over the individual price.Meaning if you wanted 6 place settings you could buy the set then 2 extra of each. They also had individual serving bowls from £7 down to £2.10 and dip bowls down from £2 to just 60p.

They are lovely looking and are heavy duty and an absolute steal at these prices.

The website is showing them at half price online but in store they are 70% off.

The "go to deal link" will take you to froogle page as the Sainsbury page wasnt loading for me.

Nice reduction, but they just seem too '1980's-esque' in my eyes

They look very current to me, have you not seen Come Dine With Me?
Unless you are serving your food on slate, wood or whatever else the mad chefs think is clever these days. oO
At least a plate keeps the bloody food warm! lol

I brought these last month when they went down to £17.50 in the half price sale! Bargain at this price if you can find them instore. Very modern and lovely quality too.

Ah well, I suppose trends do always go round in cycles..........I just remember folks in the 80s all having black square or octagonal dinnerware (I should still have some in storage somewhere) to match all their black ash side furniture!

Maybe I'd best dig me flares out in case they come back soon

Added heat BTW for the deal, even if they're not for me!

Look Fugly to me - little wonder they have so much off. Thanks for sharing though.

lol I guess taste is relative. Thank god we dont all have the same taste otherwise wouldnt the world be dull?

As prajbee post 7 says, who actually owns them, they are very modern and lovely quality.

I think they will look great for a dinner party and will show off the food.

All I need to do now is find 3/5 people willing to put up with me for a free meal! oO

(No I am NOT looking for offers from you rabble on here :p)

Yep, you got me

I dont even have to supply the friends (weirdos if most episodes are anything to go by....yeah I should fit in fine :p)

Have what I think is some of the white version of this set and have to agree that they look good, the food looks good and, by golly, they are good. Nice find and hope my local Sainsbury has some for me to compare/buy.

They look too plain IMO.
Good price though.

I think the idea is you present the food well on them and then a well presented dish stands out. Any pattern detracts from the food (unless its piled up so high you cant see the plate :p)

Loads in Dunstable. White version was full price

'wow how 80s' was my first thought too n I'm only 22 ... Not my style as my kitchen is very umm cupcake-y but some good homeware bargains to be had in Sainsburys just now!

I brought these last month when they went down to £17.50 and they are great. my only moan is the bowls are as good as useless for cereal

I bought a 36 piece set like these in the 80's!!!!! lmao .. & I still have them!! .. & still love them!!

I don't see the connection...

These things spin around on my trays, I hate them.

Good deal.

I still have mine, they don't break - they're Pyrex, and food looks great on black crockery!

I have no idea why all these daft 80s comments are popping up. Everything fashion wise goes in cycles.

For the last few years, square plain white or black dinnerware has been the fashion.
As I and others have said, the food looks great on them, they are very heavy and sturdy and made of porcelain. What more do people want for a tenner ffs!

I have been wanting a set like this for ages and square plates are expensive so this really is a steal. I even went back today and bought more individual items to make the set larger.

ps If you can find a better deal then post it!

"I think they will look great for a dinner party and will show off the food."

No black does not work to show off food - that is why white is used is most restaurants and all quality ones. Square is just off - KISS as some might say.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

However restaurants use white plates partly because they are cheaper but mostly to show they are clean and sanitary.
Simple black plates show off well presented colourful food really well imo

Not got a clue what you are on about re "square is just off - KISS as some might say".

I do find it weird that people come on here with no interest in buying just to make comments that they dont like them. Why open the deal then? oO

You can't compare the look of food on black vs white - I've a good Denby set (a whole set) but won't swap - still use the 80's set I was bought for my 21st - food colour looks awesome!

got one....Hot from me
