So show me a premium or normal jam with less. Just checked Hartley's premium 60% sugar, Inc corn syrup 40% fruit. Bonne maman 50% fruit 60%ish sugar and no corn syrup or glucose.
Plus it tastes great!

It's jam, it's pretty much 99% sugar.

How else do you make jam? Sugar is a preservative.

Think you're wrong there, they generally have a higher fruit content, including sugars.

59%

They say sugars, so that's not just common added sugar=sucrose but it's probably other sugars fructose (naturally in the fruit) maybe even glucose etc.
Ps if you want to make a jam sound classy, you call it a conserve

There are jams with less sugar and even your data proves it. I have stated a fact which might be useful to some, nothing else. Buy whatever you want. I am not getting into arguments over jam.

They list stawberries and sugars separately at the bottom of the page and the 100 g data is not exhausted so I am not sure, but thanks for the fun fact

Have to say the Aldi jams in a similarly styled jar are very good, possibly even better tasting as well.

Yes so they do. So why do they say sugarssss?
Bonne Maman isn’t particularly good and very expensive. Used to live in France and have always preferred English jams. Lidl is very good and this weekend is third price of Bonne Maman. It also has lot more fruit content.

Yep - Both Bonne Maman and Lidl's Maribel Conserve contain 50% Fruit. Bonne Maman is 340g and Lidl's is 450g.
Hi....can anybody tell me if this Jam is suitable for Vegetarians

No it is not. 60g per 100g is fairly typical of jams on the market. That is not a Bonne Maman problem. No need to preach your sugar hatred in a jam thread with incorrect information. Home made jam are often even worse as far as sugar content is concerned.

I personally like the taste of reduced sugar jam or even better double fruit ones (Vachon was my favourite but not available over here)

Have to say I was particularly impressed with the raspberry. Normally only enjoy homemade raspberry jam!

Missed out on the 54p price though... 😬

Sugar hatred? This was just to inform some people. There are jams with 40% sugar or less so 59% is quite high. Seriously, some people think they got the other person figured out by reading one comment. Get a life.

Agree. The Aldi one is REALLY good.
And way cheaper, too, but Hot for this deal.

There should be more sugar in things that don't have much sugar in them. Pasties, bikes, etc.
stingergb01/11/2019 17:12

That's because it's got a higher fruit content thus higher fructose

The only thing that puts me off buying it is that it's made in France

Cream Tea yum yum
This is a good price for this, but as has been said, the Aldi Lidl options are as good, I doubt you could tell the difference in a taste test.

I agree half the price and pretty much the same content
Wildfires destroying Californian homes, drought killing livestock in Australia, bloody conflicts affecting millions in the Middle East, hurricanes pounding coasts . . .
