Just glad to see basic food at a sensible price, and cheap enough for everyone to afford.

1Kg of carrots for 25p is really great news for all us horse keepers out there. Although you can get bigger sacks of malformed and rough carrots that work out less per Kg, these are very convenient to grab on your way to stables.

What with ALL the major supermarkets doing this kind of deal now strikes me that there may be high winds in Britain over the Christmas period...

Hot tho, cheers OP.

All the supermarkets have a similar offer on right now...
good deal, think sainsburys probably doing it this cheap beacuse after tesco & then morrisons offers they've probably been left with so much produce they've got to sell it cheap or throw it away

good for us anyway

Oops, thanks for that
i started to roast carrots this week and really love it. so instead of chips, i have roasted carrots, which tastes much nicer, costs less and is much healthier.

picking up a packet today and will pick up more later in the week if this offer is on
Are Lidl going to drop their prices? 29p for theirs
Sainsburys don't usually enter into the pricewar on veg at christmas, great price heat added
Is it in all Sainsbury’s including locals?
What's the best way to prepare brussel sprouts?
The only people that cant afford this "BASIC FOOD" is the farmers that have to grow them for this price.

You can cook them then pan fry them with some garlic if you like or bacon and chestnuts , or roast them , some people cut them in half and shallow fry them in a little oil because they get nice and tasty when nicely browned
Asda don't seem that cheap as yet , will they be doing a similar offer does anyone know as it will save me carrying my veg back from elsewhere if I add them to my online shop

I roast carrots all the time - delicious twice cooked with a bit of butter and sage.

I wouldn't say they're nicer than chips though....I mean if it turned out that chips were incredibly healthy and carrots killed you then I'd definitely swap the carrots for chips...

Also fish and carrots with curry sauce just doesn't sound all that palatable to me.

My husband puts them in the steamer. I think this way you keep the sweet flavour as opposed to boiling them. That is, if you can call sprouts sweet.

Buy a bag of frozen ones, leave to defrost. Cube some bacon (or use lardons or pancetta) and fry for a few minutes, add the sprouts and fry with the bacon until they have some colour. Top with cracked black pepper or lemon zest...or chestnuts...or GRAVY.

I stopped buying the 'fresh' ones a few years back as they're just a hassle and don't seem to be as consistently sweet as frozen. Maybe because they've been sat around for so long.

I used to hate carrots and think it is for rabbits. Bugs Bunny springs to mind.

But i decided to roast them this week to see what they taste like roasted and was very surprised how much sweeter they taste roasted to being eaten raw or boiled. I dont really like chips that much but i dont have much food i want to eat, so i eat chips as i have nothing else i want to eat. Therefore for me, It is an easy one to swap with carrots.

i dont like fish much and i cant eat curry so i dont have your problem

Which bit are you allergic to? You can't just be 'allergic to curry' - as there is such a huge variety of styles and flavours and ingredients - so if you can establish what it is and he cooks them from scratch as I do then you'll be able to enjoy them again.

However, chip shop curry is about as far removed from actual curry as you can get anyway

I am allergic to many foods so there arent that much that i can eat. Then i dont like most food that i can actually eat, so i have a very limited diet of eating the same thing every day. The list is getting smaller with time as i get fed up with eating the same thing over and over again

i am allergic to all spicy foods and all indian foods. I think it is the spice in indian food cooking that brings out an allergic reaction. I cant eat food that has alcohol in it as i have an allergy to alcohol. I cant eat food that is hot like soup so i have to wait until they have gone cold before i can eat them. This spoils most food as a lot of food dont taste nice if they are eaten cold.

Cut the bottom off, score with knife, then place both peices in the bin.,.......
the morrisons deal is still better IMO, 3 for a quid and include cabbage, leeks, onions etc

sweat down down diced shallots and smoked streaky bacon, then add a generous knob of butter.

cut the sprouts in half, boil or steam for 10 minutes, toss in the bacon mix and chuck in a handful of chopped walnuts or chestnuts

Isn't alcohol completely burned off when cooked? Or is it something else even in previously alcoholic goods that remains, like the sulphites?

You sound extremely unlucky in a gastronomic sense! Are you alergic to any European or African herbs and spices or just South Asian ones?

I dont think alcohol burns off if it is added to the food. I think beer may burn off from batter and cheaper food but only if it added in small quantity. I doubt wine and spirits added to food would burn off.

i also find the taste of alcohol repulsive so the food tastes really bad to me if there is a hint of alcohol in the food.

any herbs or spice that is ‘spicy’ brings out an allergy, not region specific. It is annoying, as there are so many foods that i want to eat but i cant.

The symptoms are real enough! I sometimes ignore them and just eat the food, or eat the food without realising that they contain the ingredients i am allergic to, and end up with a terrible rash for weeks.
