I personally find these taste of boiled chicken and prefer tesco who are doing two for a fiver or chicken tikka masala on at half price at the moment around £1.37 or so.

ive purchased the budget tesco ones in the past and found them to taste rather like their price. cheap.

plus topically, the price would generally question the type of meat they claim to put in it..

the comparable ready meals to these siansburys ones would be the 350g range tesco.com/gro…598

however, in my opinion still not as good. plus an extra 50g per portion with sainsburys deal makes it that bit sweeter.

the ones you point out are the ones I think are pretty good, not the tesco budget ones (I wouldn't even buy one to try). Morrisons seem to be very tomatoey. Had the tesco tikka masala today after reading this thread and it was good - but as with everything, everyone has their own tastes!

What about the lamb curry is that on offer ?

Morrisons used to be brilliant at them but with their rebranding of the packaging they had made the portions smaller and messed with all the ingredients and increased the price. They used to do a peri peri chicken curry which was amazing. and really good for you in terms of calories and fat (if you monitor that sort of thing) but sadly they scrapped it..

These are good. Much better than their chilled Chinese meals, which I found inedible.

They taste great when I eat them thinking I am having dessert. They should make it a bit more sweet. Ohhh was it supposed to be Indian curry? Better rename it as british curry.

Agreed but the Ken Hom ones are good - especially the crispy duck. Expensive when not on offer though (think most are two for £5 or similar at the moment).

Do you not think all the supermarkets are watching/checking their suppliers VERY carefully at the moment? They all know that the beef scandal has cost them dear and shaken confidence so it's a simple commercial decision to ensure everything is absolutely as described now.

The only retailer which didn't take responsibility for what they sell is Iceland - maybe they know their customers are less fussy (?) but I think their MD is taking a big risk, even if he is being more candid than others.

Vegetable Biryani is nice, but smells of a lot more spicy/fragrant then it tastes.

To be honest after I found out my local curry house does a light (enough for one hungry person or 2 not so hungry) set meal for £6.
I've not brought a supermarket curry as taste and value for money it can't be beaten.
The set menu consists of an onion bhaji, a curry (similar portion size to these), rice, naan, poppadom + dip and side salad. All delivered if you order two or more.

Good deal though.

Word of warning for anyone considering the chicken Phal - it is unbelievably hot, hotter than any Indian curry i've ever had. I'm no stranger to a bit of spice, and was thinking 'its only a supermarket ready meal - how hot can it be?', but it defeated me.

this does sound like a good deal but i only avoid the local takeaways as you dont really know the nutrition content etc. thats included. i know its a bit of a lame comment of mine but im big on my gym and one day a week im allowed to eat a takeaway but my calorie and fat priorities take control! local curry houses do love to provide a decent deal

And you have tried all the range have you?

These are made by a company called Noon products and they do a decent job I must say.

The Indian meals with the chargrilled marinated breast taste better than the non-CG in the selection and also the pieces (of which theres plenty) seem to be more succulent and easy to pull apart which I love, no chewy stuff here!

Tesco has used non-british chicken for a while now but with the meat in the headlines they are now sourcing from here instead which is a good move but a lot of 'ready made' curries are either a-maz-ing or absolute kak and I find the Sainsburys ones to be highest quality available.

Another thing, the 400g Phal meal (with no rice and yes it was hot) was discontinued months ago shame as the 350g w/rice is 75% rice and 25% curry!!

Final thing takeaways use pre-made tins and cans for their sauces so really it's not guaranteed to be of higher standards than a s-chain bought curry.

And if anyone wants to share some tips on how to make a homemade curry please be my guest!

Not a bad deal at all but fully stocked up on morrisons half price tikka masala atm. Very Very nice and half price still I believe.

These are crap compared to tesco range.

Steer clear.

Grown up eating curry all my life and now I'm at uni I can't be bothered to cook it myself, I might try these just to see how good they are.

hope the lamb ones are on offer, theyre superb

So has anyone checked whether this is nationwide yet?

I like these - on a par with the Waitrose ones IMHO.
Just wish that my local JS had the selection in the OP post.

Heat added - sorry, couldn't resist that!

Definitely in mine I work at. The offer is 2 for £6 or 3 for £8 or 4 for £10.

Most of them. Each to their own - all Sids prefer Tesco curries!

Ahh ok well glad you found Tesco's alright. Did some research on Noon the company that produce the Sainsbury Indian range and found the owner is err... an Indian OMG :O who came to the UK and is now a millionaire! I wish I lived close to the factory I could work there and get discount all the time yum : )
