Sainsburys laptop deals - Medion Akoya E6221 i5 - £299.99 @ Sandybridge 15.6" laptop - in store only

Having been searching for the Acer deal at Sainsburys I came across some other fantastic offers on laptops particularly the one i've bought - the Medion Akoya E6221 i5-2410 2nd gen Sandybridge with 4gb ram, 640gb harddrive.

Other laptops on offer I came across:

Medion Akoya P6624 i5 £299.99 (1st gen i5 with Nvidia GT425 1GB)
Medion Akoya E6221 i3 £249.99 (2nd gen from what I remember)
Acer 5552 £229.99
+ several others but far lower spec so of no interest in comparison to the above.

IMPORTANT! None of these laptops are out on the shelf, you HAVE to ask a member of staff who works on the electrical department to see the selection of laptops out the back (kept in their cage). I was lucky enough in two stores to have helpful member of staff bring out their entire selection in trolleys for me to go through. To find a Sandybridge i5 for £299 I was gobsmacked!

Spec of the E6221:

2nd generation Intel Core i5 2410 2.3ghz
HD3000 onboard video
15.6" screen 1366x768 res
High def audio with Dolby advanced audio 2 speakers
640gb sata harddrive
4gb DDR3 memory
DVDRW DL drive
Wireless N
10/100/1000 ethernet
Integrated 1.3mp webcam
Multi format memory card reader - SD SDHC MMC MS MS PRO
2 x USB 3 + 2 x USB 2 ports
6 cell battery
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
1 year Sainsburys warranty - normally means anything goes wrong in that 12 months you get a refund instead of sent off for repair (in my experience anyway)

From what I was told by staff is that Sainsburys are planning a mass clear out of all laptops starting in a week or two hence none of these laptops advertised yet but because they have already had their prices reduced then if you ask for one then they sell it to you. Once that promotion starts they will go quick so get in now, just whilst I was sorting through last night an elderly couple were watching and listening and then came over and said they would take one after i'd bought mine.

Thanks to whoever put the picture in with the link to the Sainsbury's customer reviews - please remember those reviews are based on the old price of £400 and also the first thing you should do is update the bios of the laptop when you get it which gets rid of the issues mentioned in a few of the reviews.

I had just managed to talk myself out of buying a laptop but if I can get this from my sainsbury's at that price looks like I'm back in

Hmmmm... reviews aren't very good - a whole world of issues reported.

Did you read the whole post by me? The issues are fixed with the latest bios update.

I contacted Sainsburys about how angry I am that I paid for a laptop that a day later was £100 cheaper in a sale. They told me 'tough' basically.

just return it but really they dont have to announce what is going to be in the sale, sad but they can do what they want.

its a great deal if u can get it..... HOT

Medion do not buy - terrible after sales service - refused to do anything with a 13 month old laptop that died. Good people at Viking just refunded me. Bad brand

To be honest if you brought it from Viking then your contract is with them not medion so they were right to pass you on the Viking.

Just a note people on this Laptop it has Integrated Graphics so if your thinking ill get this for my kid to play games on think again it will seriously struggle.

Bargain for the spec, but the build quality and design of this model is horrendous, keyboard is poor and the display model we've got at work is probably the slowest system of all of them.

You're getting what you pay for in this instance.

I only paid £250 for this at my Sainsbury on Sunday so cold from me

Going to maybe check tonight - looking for a higher-spec one, maybe an Erazer... Mmm...

My i3 HD3000 can eun skyrim so its not so bad but yea its not a laptop for gaming but it will run some min spec games (skyrim) :P

Ridiculous price! Same spec Apple Mac is only £900. Personally and extra £600 for a bitten fruit logo and a crippled os with major compatibility issues is well worth the money.

I'd go with a Dell refurb. If you're prepared to monitor the site you should be able to pick up a similar spec i5 for 20 to 50 quid more. Recently bought a i5 380M with 4GB and separate graphics card for my dad for £314 delivered. I know it's last years i5 which is why I said 20 to 50 more.

You do have to camp on the site to get a bargain and expect to camp for 3 or 4 days.

I can vouch for Medions being fantastic value for money. My erazer is a little beast and only cost £320

Hows the general build quality? Never even seen a Medion but this could be ideal for my sisters next laptop. Ive always been very pleased with Acer quality and found that my recent Asus purchase lacked the quality of the Acer, so im very open minded about budget brands.

just bought 3 of the e6221 i3 model ....£249.99 each

Well what did you expect for starters?? Oh sir i wouldnt buy that today as tomorrow we will be having £100 off it?? get real!!

Its like buying a bottle of pepsi then next day its half price in the offers, and getting all stressy!!!

I would be interested in the i7 for 299 that's for sure !! sainsburys.co.uk/sol…tml but the i3 is not such a bargin.

Some conflicting info floating about...

Is this for a Medion Akoya E6221 i5 or i3?
And for £299.99 or £249.99?

This is made by Tosh, wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

My i3 HD3000 can eun skyrim

Have you tried resolutions above 320x240? X)
I tried Skyrim on the HD3000 and it was awful and unplayable, thankfully my overclocked GT555m has no problems even at high detail settings :D.

As far as I know, Lenovo just bought Medion, Medion products in the future will probably use Lenovo's after sale service in the future, just a guess.

Bought one from Cheshire Oaks. great spec for price. Thanks OP

Is this the Medion Akoya P6624 i5 £299.99 (1st gen i5 with Nvidia GT425 1GB) ?? do you have the SKU number ?

the i3 e6221 2310m i bought for £249.99 is sku121672786
i believe the i5 one is sku 121673228
think they are both a good price ...the i3 seems to be £100 dearer elsewhere

I disagree completely - a lot of companys will refund the extra (often as store credit) when the item is on sale shortly after you purchased it. Have had success with this on several occasions, my Samsung 40" Tv at Argos being the latest - it was £50 cheaper the next time i went into the store, and i basically threatened to bring it back. 2mins of talking to a manager and a £50 store had been agreed. Highly advise pressing the issue - speak to another member of staff and pretend its still sealed, act like you'll bring it back and rebuy it if they insist, but they could save you time and petrol by just refunding the difference.

@awilko - Lets be honest - its a bit different to being stressy over pepsi isnt it. £100 is 5-10% of the average joe's monthly salary

Never heard of stores doing that personally to be honest, what happens after christmas then when basically all presents you would have bought go half price etc, do they give evryone the difference, every company would be bust, fact.
Yes its gutting that its cheaper but the person was obviously happy to pay the full price when he got it so its the risk you take!!

receipt?

is this deal nationwide if so does anyone know if team valley store has them?

Original Poster

Nationwide yes, however the wide range of laptops will be increasingly appearing in the stores that have dedicated electrical sections in the next week or two as apparently Sainsburys are collecting all laptops up from stores with no electrical department and sending them to the bigger stores as clearance items. This is why you wont see them on the shelf yet as that clearance hasn't officially started but if you ask someone in store who knows about the stock then you will get to see what they have available.

I got an i5 for £229 on Sunday. Very please so far.

Same set up - off a cage, not on display. when I spoke to the guy he said that smaller stores are going to stop selling the laptops and all old ranges are being sent to main stores for clearance. In Scotland the stores will be Cameron Toll in Edinburgh, Braehead (I think) in Glasgow and one in Aberdeen

Got 1 of each (i3 & i5) i love a bargain

Anyone get the Sony vaio with Intel p6200 4gb ram 500gb HDD for 249.99? Also did anyone notice that the red 5552 has 3gb ram and the black has 4gb but the same price? Anyway managed to get the vaio and a red 5552. Keeping the sony, first vaio I've used and very impressed!

I wouldnt buy another Medion at half the above price. Awful build quality and borderline illegal "customer services". Mine spent months in their "repair center" coming back with new faults each time including lesser specd hardware.

I pickd up the i5 yesterday for £299 in Stevenage Magpie Crecent store - appears ok at the moment although I think it may need to go back because the q button keeps sticking qqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqq

PS... Good thing about buying from sainsburys is that if it goes wrong in the first 12 months they wqill replace or refund not send off to get fixed.
