Not sure what makes it Taste the Difference but I think this is a bargain.

Bought 2 packs and put them in the freezer.

Did do a search but nothing can up.

Whats traditional about this?

Traditional I think means it has meat and fat put through a mincer. Non-traditional beef mince is sand-blasted bones in the abbatoir. That's why mums go to ....

Yes, one would hope traditional meant not mechanically reclaimed but I doubt it.

Tried this stuff a few weeks ago in a spag bol, quite nice actually.

its a bit fattier (is that a word?) than the usual lean I buy but good for the price and taste. I think its a better cut of meat / possibly steak and not bone etc

I tried this stuff the other week. It was total mince.

What's the usual price of this then?

It's about 20% fat. That's traditional...

Exactly! I was that sad to remember the rock paper scissors combination when it came to in the game.

Or you could go to a butchers where it normally costs about this price.

2lb of good quality stuff at my local butchers is £2.99

Great price! I'll be stocking up this week.

Good idea! Do your high street a favour.

Absolute rubbish.

I am surprised someone hasn't come on and spouted off about it being full of water too, they usually do. There is time yet though :-(

If my local butcher was open while I'm not at work, I'd do that. Unfortunately he works the same hours I do, so I can only visit him on a Saturday. As I rarely know what I want to eat from one day to the next, he is unfortunately not an option

Oh, and he's a bit more expensive anyway.

MMMMMMMMmmmmm 80g out of 500g is fat. Flabtastic...

I normally fried the mince and drained off all the fat so there would be minimal fat content left. I hate fat

I saw this yesterday when we went shopping Great deal, it's now cheaper than their middle of the range mince! Stocked the freezer up with 10 packs.

I bought this last week and it is pretty reasonable mince but the "usual" price of £3.19 is way too high given that the fat content is actually quite high.

At £1.59 it is a pretty good price though.

1 of my 2 packs has started to go a little brown, the other is still red. (use by 4th Nov). Should I be returning it? Or can you still cook it?

Got one of these this week, might actually stock up on a couple more while they are cheap.

Smell it, always the best way. I made a chilli last night with some where half the pack was brown, it was still fine. I'm sure the red colouring is more artificial anyway, sure when its first minced it'd be red but like a steak it should go brown in contact with air surely?

this is £3.19 each or 2 for £5 in my local store.

same price online too!

It stays red because the pack is filled with a type of gas to preserve it - there's no colouring in it.
I was a butcher for many years, in a butchers shop then a supermarket- mince (fresh) in a butchers shouldn't go brown - if its good quality it would stay red but dry out and go kinda waxy.
Pre packed will always go brown, then eventually greenish and stink this is due to it 'sweating'/condensation in the pack - if you're going to use it within a couple of days, just put a slit the pack and let the air get to it and it shouldn't go brown
If any of you like those bbq/sweet n sour/chinese steaks, chicken etc you see in supermarkets on the butchers bit, if its a little dark avoid it like the plague - its been sold as a regular 'steak etc' for 4 days then when it dis-colours they dip it in powder covering the colour and put another 3 days on its life!
Be happy that in todays supermarket mince is mince, years ago mince meant anything you could mince, literally everything went into it! I've been told mince up ox hearts and fat before and sold it as minced beef - if you mix it enough it looks exactly the same.

THanks,
so Goose..does that mean that it should be ok if it has started to turn brown? (will probably be worse by the time I get home lol).

Absolutely. Shops inflate the prices for a while, then do deals like this to make it seems much better than it is. Though I never buy this mince at the standard price. I've had it before when it was on the reduced section, and it is better than their standard and economy mince...but as you say...not worth £3.19.
