Virgin Atlantic have started their flights sale - I just booked direct return tickets to NY for my daughter and me for £488 for both of us in the middle of August (so school summer holidays). It was £288 for an adult fare. I know Norwegian is sometimes cheaper from London but Virgin do free food and drinks on board and are generally a really nice flight.

And that's not all, you can save an extra £50 per bookingˆ on Flight + Hotel. With packages starting from just £379 per person, including return flights and three nights hotel stay, what are you waiting for? Use code SAVE50.

You can believe it or not, it really doesn't concern me. And get off your high horse telling me what's morally correct as clearly you feel being sold something that isn't what was promised is "ok". Ridiculous mentality.

We booked for 15th-19th August for one family member and 7-19th August for others - all same price.

It includes meals and drinks but doesn’t include luggage apart from 10kg of hand luggage. It’s £45 to add a 23kg bag on but for a long weekend to NY then 10kg is fine for us unless you plan to do lots of shopping! We’ll probably add on one 23kg bag for the whole group. (edited)

We've booked via Delta for next August, LHR to Chicago and back from LAX. Delta have a code share with Virgin, paid under £400 when we booked about 2 months ago. Check out Momondo for playing around with different airlines and dates (edited)

The price will probably drop however if there’s more than one of you going you could always fly into LAX and drive to Vegas as it’s only a 4.5 hour drive. There are of course additional costs involved with hiring a car but it can sometimes be a cheaper option.

However, for that price, it's hard to beat. Sure everyone has different experiences but it resulted in a full refund for us on a couple of occasions.

A full refund...... on a COUPLE of occasions! Did they refuse to let you on the plane..

I’ve flown at least 3 4 times a year, every year for the last 10 years (work related + pleasure) always across the Atlantic.
Thats between 60 to 80 flights and i’ve had probably 2 issues that just resulted in being credited air miles.. and maybe the odd occasional snotty stewardesses.
But nothing that warrants a full refund.
I find it hard to believe that you’ve had 2 full refunds....

It was quite a long journey so we agreed and paid still quite a considerable sum but thought it'd be worth it. Prior to boarding, the flight had an issue with the entertainment system so some economy seats would be without and they had overbooked seats too. Saw some customers kicking up a fuss but either way, we we asked to board. Found out that we had the awful bulk head seats which we were promised not to have when we upgraded. Flight took off and then we realised about 10 people around us in the better seats were upgraded for free because of the entertainment system being down ... Yet they got better seats than us who paid? Complained to the cabin crew (so it was on record) and followed it up once we got back. Full refund.EDIT: I'll also add, tweeting Richard Branson and Virgin DM'ing you about 5 minutes later certainly helped. They watch Twitter very closely.

I still don't believe for one minute that what happened warranted a FULL REFUND,and that you got it.

    Why say Virgin is awful....

You first hand witnessed the cabin crew move passengers FREE OF CHARGE to premium economy because there Entertainment system didn't work ???......

That doesn't sound like a bad airline to me.... your opinion on this airline has 0 credibility.
Keep doing what your your Virgin Atlantic, Kudos from me

No ridiculous mentality is you turning your nose up at other passengers who were extremely lucky to be moved into premium economy.
virgin did the right thing in correcting an issue with there seats.. had the flight not been full they would have been moved to another economy seat! Lucky for them it was!
You got what you paid for.... a premium economy seat and all the bells and whistles that comes with it.
the bulk head seats are still perfectly fine! I’ve been there and there normally very hard to obtain!

Think about staying over the Hudson to save money. I stayed in a Hilton, in a one bedroom suite bed n breakfast, for about £70 a night in October school week. The bus stop was right outside, buses ran to port authority every 15 mins until 1am and cost $7 return. Bus also stopped at the ferry, so you could take that across as well.

You'll do well to pay less than £100 a night in manhattan if you want to be within walking distance of the sights and sounds. Plus the pound is weak so go after any Brexit deal is complete.

Yep. To be fair though, exactly the same issue in London. It’s just big city hotel prices. If there’s more than two of you then real savings in apartments - you can get a 2 bed apartment relatively central for £150 a night rather than pay £200+ for two hotel rooms.
