Reviews certainly sound good but I have a question (yes, I'm a bloke!)

How on earth would you read the display if you had a bowl full of stuff on top of it?

I think the secret is it's a 2-piece design...

* Wall mounted display and platform for easy storage and access
* Platform detaches from wall mounted display for use on a work surface

So you weigh on the platform and read off the display on the wall.

HTH!

True untill you put a big bowl on and it can not transmit the signal back. Plus my scales (salter) are errrrr portable, I take them around the kitchen and are not limited to my eyes ie trying to look over to where the mount is on the wall. Good idea mind you, just not that practical for everyone :-)

I didn't say whether I liked the design...just how the design worked (some of the time...). May be more form over function.

Cool. Shame I've recently bought some nice scales.

ah.. IR.. a large object would probably block transmission.

salter's design dpt. has gone crazy (browsing other scales available, they're pretty bizarre)

Oh I like this! I might get it if it'll work

Looks pretty cool, additional pics here - salterhousewares.com/sal…tml

If I'm not mistaken, RRP is £49.99

Bought these for £25 from amazon about 3 months ago and got to say they work really well! The IR signal is pretty strong so works even with a big bowl on top of the scales. The in built clock and temp guage are really useful as well for a quick glance at the time as I walk through the kitchen.

Recommended, definitely at this price, its build really well and a good (if somewhat geeky) talking point lol! :-D

Any more Q's, just ask!

Cheers
Phil

P.S. Also good for weighing letters as its accurate to 1g!

Perfect for use in my office - a clock for the wall, and a scale for when i'm wrapping and weighing eBay parcels... (Parcels of stuff i'm selling off - just like this set of scales in fact - items that I bought on a whim that I never really needed in the first place LOL)

I've ordered a set; heat & rep added... Cheers

One 'practical' scenario would be when weighing a sizeable item e.g. a parecl which would cover the display of standard scales, but one wouldn't have any such problems with this one.

For anyone who missed out on this, they're available to order again direct from Amazon but now at £17.10 with a 2-4 week lead time. Still a very good price compared to elsewhere if you can wait..

When you follow the link, the Amazon.co.uk option is in the "More Buying Choices" box on the right-hand side.
