The Salter space saving liquid measurement scale allows you to measure liquid without the use of a measuring jug. It has an electronic platform with bowl allowing you to use with or without the bowl. The large digit LDC display makes measuring easy to read and its compact design allows the base to be easily stored inside the bowl.

I picked one of these up from sainsburys today - same price - tis good though, very small & battery operated so it doesn't take up much space & doesn't use up another plug socket!

I don't understand! I already have a measuring jug which can measure liquids, doesn't take up much space and doesn't require a plug socket. It also has the advantages of not needing batteries and not costing 30 quid.

How does it work? Does it just weigh the liquid - in which case do you have to tell it what the liquid is so it can calculate the volume based on density? Or does it just assume that everything is water and has a density of 1g/ml?

If its anything like mine (which has the liqui-swizz thing) it gives results based on water ie 1g per cm cubed.

I would say its easier to accurately measure a litre of water than in a jug.

I didn't have any scales at all - I'm not bothered about the liquid thing really & it was £15 not £30 - there was also a black one in sainsbury's for £10 which doesn't do the liquid measurements but I thought for a fiver extra I may as well get the liquid one.

Oops! Sorry. £15 for a nice set of digital scales seems OK. I'd ignore the liquid thing as it's obviously a gimmick (if you need 250ml, weigh out 250g - it'll be accurate for water and accurate enough for baking etc for any other liquids). £10 seems even better but at that point I'd buy the one that looks cool in your kitchen (I need a nice brushed stainless scale!)
