Quite a basic digital compact, don't latch onto 12.1 megapixels and go wow!

However very good price for this camera, closest other price I can find is £69(possibly pre delivery too),

So hot deal.

Only go for this if you have a really tight budget.

The link below is to a great camera review site and has a review of the Samsung ES17.

A word of warning, from my experience it's best not to get a camera that takes AA batteries.....they don't last long at all (even when you buy rechargeables). Try to get a camera with it's own specific lithium-ion battery and comes with it's own charger.

some may disagree but that's been my experience in the past!

I've got a Samsung, similar to this, 8mp. Put 2x 2800mha rechargeables in, lasts all day, 100's a pics. Don't put alkaline batteries in though, lasts for about 5 pictures, seriously. Took the 1st one back, thought it was faulty. The replacement was the same. Put rechargeables in, no probs since.

Most cameras take AA's just because they are always available whereas you may not have access to a charge point. I do agree with the guy above though, I had an older model that was very bad with normal batterys but some High power rechargables from Wilkos did the job fine.

Some last on AAs some don't. My parents Fuji camera lasted well on alkaline.

The Kyocera my dad lent me was the most hungry thing ever! On a two week trip I went through twenty batteries in a few days before I had to go and buy a charger and rechargeables. It lasted the same time on them but at least I could recharge them!

Agree with the battery notion, my Casio Exilim Z100 will easily take 300 shots on one charge of its own battery.

A decent charger works wonders, you can pick up a cheap charger that will charge batteries in 15 - 30 mins (a far cry from the bad old days of waiting hours and hours). The charger will pay for itself because the camera won't be the only thing you possess that takes AA and you can charge AAAs as well. My cheap charger (approx 20 quid) came with a mains adapter and a car cigarette lighter adapter (so batteries can be powered on the move). I would not let AA batteries put me off in the least.

Just my tuppence

This camera does come with a charger, and a lithium ion battery. It says so in the description.

Would be better with a charger but most cameras dont come with one funny anuff.

Although the main description says "Battery type: 2 × AA Battery". Perhaps a quick google will provide answers.

Edit: Samgsung's own website only mentions 2 x AA, nothing of lithium ones.

I bought this camera and have now been engaged in battle with play.com for 3 weeks trying to locate the battery and charger mentioned in the description. I think it is a mistake on their part, but it is a mistake THEY need to sort out. It is still advertised with charger and battery even though they have a review on their own website saying it didn't come with one!
