Managed to bag one from Amazon last week @ £49.99 having read some great reviews, however this may be going back as Amazon are unable to confirm this comes with the standard three year warranty and Samsungs Warranty checker states check with reseller (106).

Does anyone know if this one (OP) comes with a three year warranty???

No idea about warranty, on here lurking for a smashing 2Tb deal.

You can get the 1.5TB 5,400rpm EcoGreen version for £55.21 here. The deal is still valid, even though someone incorrectly expired it.

Amazing what you can find if you search overclockers.co.uk/sho…l=3

Whisper quiet and fast, mine is fully loaded with 931Gb worth of movies and it has never missed a beat.

Very rapid and silent drive. I tested mine and it gives 145MB/s read and 142MB/s write speeds!

Bought this a few months ago to use as a downloads storage drive.

It's very quick and also very quiet.

Also, it's extremely easy to install, Windows recognised it immediately after boot-up and a quick format took 5 seconds. It then showed up in "My Computer".

This is an excellent choice whether you're looking for a drive for a new system, or just looking to add some extra storage.

I'm thinking of buying another one if it ever runs out. Hope they have enough stock!

Very easy to set-up and fast, nice and quiet,i have 2 of these running as storage and will be getting a few more, great drive for the money....

Although you can also find some negative comments

ohh i dunno . maybe all the reviews on , Ebuyer , Aria , Dabs , and tons of forums from people that bought it and are happy with it , but of course silly them , what would they know ehh , they have been reviewing ones they actually bought and are working great and are happy with , whereas they should have been basing it on your 1 faulty one , right? ...

My 300gb primary drive is about 5 years old? (from when 300gb was about 90 quid), should I have a drive of this size as my new system drive or something smaller?

hi guys it seems that TB is becomming rediculously low. I have a HP Datavault X510 homeserver, is this a fast and quiet drive or are there any better ones out there?

thanks

If your motherboard supports SATA/SATA II you will surely see a massive performance increase.

Had one of these for 4-6 months or so now, very good drive overall.
A few problems I had when I first got it though:-

1) had to install an OS on a different drive so that I could even see this one... wouldn't show up in Gparted.

2) after I installed OS it was fine for a while, but then would randomly turn itself off even if the drive was in use... had to make some changes in windows OS to prevent this, but now it works fine.

3) Seemed a bit sluggish sometimes when transferring to/from the drive... after another few tweaks in the OS runs fine now... had to disable indexing in windows.

Overall very happy with the drive, after all the only thing that caused most of the problems was the way windows takes over everything... and with the drive not being found problem, that could have been down to an older version of GpartED I was using because originally I didn't want to install win7 and wanted a linux OS. I believe if installing win7 OS then this should be OK.

FOr a homesserver you're probably better off with "green" drives (the samsung ones are called Ecogreen): they consume less power and performance matters less if it's just for storage

The 300gb drive is sata, it's just become quite sluggish and Win 7 says it's the thing holding my PC back. I'm thinking that a 1tb drive is way too big to have as a system drive but I don't know what I could have instead that is decent.

The 500gb model is very good too, I use one as my system drive. Bought this as a secondary last week from Scan for £45.81 with a free Akasa cable and fan (which I probably won't use). I notice it is on their deal of the day again at the same price, minus the fan.

The 1tb is marginally faster but doesn't seem to be as quiet.

I got two from scan for £84.58 and free next day delivery via Hexus. I have been very impressed so far with the drives but I have had the F1 and it has been fantastic for about two years now so had no fear going for Samsung.

errrm try just about every review of the drive there is on the net, if you've got that many drives dying then you're either running them 24/7 (buy enterprise class drives instead then), you're letting them get too hot, you're mishandling them prior to installation or you're the most unlucky person on the planet!

surely cheaper and betetr from scan?

Seems to me you have faulty equipment that is causing all the hard drives you connect to fail. I would replace some cables to begin with and then look at the psu.

What you could do is buy this and partition it, thats what i did. Ive allocated 50 gb to drive c (OS partition) and 950 gb to drive d (Storage partition). You will ofcourse have to back everything up in ur current setup and re install the OS.

Have been using the 1tb F3's in a Raid 0 configuration for months now and its blisteringly fast eg in abgx for the 360 i get 230mb out of them, and i also have the 500gb F3 drive for my OS which is really quick aswell.

Ive' got a couple of these drives and highly recommend them! Fast, quite and reliable backed with a 3 year Samsung (UK) warranty you cant go wrong!

I've got my OS running from one of these drives and it runs fine. I partitioned 160 GB for the os and the rest for storage and it works much better than the drive I had previously.

OK Peeps seems most of you are happy with the drive as I am. Did anyone use any clone software as I dont want to do a fresh install from my existing Samsung F1 HD. The OS is Vista.

Thanks

I've bought these for a bunch of people in the past, no one reporting any problems. Pretty much the same thing over the net.
Guess you were just unlucky.

capcom1

this any help??

thanks capcom, that is helpful.

Having thought about it though i think i'll get the upgrade done by someone who knows what they're doing!
this guy offers a 24 month warranty if anything goes wrong after upgrade and feedback looks good.

Edited by: "buckfast67uk" 24th Jul 2010

it actually doesn't look as simple as that in the guide capcom kindly posted, plus the other person will transfer all your recordings, test it and give you a 2 year guarantee.

There's no guarantee that this hard drive will work in a sky box anyway

Edited by: "buckfast67uk" 24th Jul 2010

Wow I am very happy with this drive - got it working in my A7N8X-D against all the odds and while I had to reflash the bios with new sata controller (heart stopping moment!) everything went quite well
There was a 'windows logo' error during installation but things seem great!

But yeah super quiet and seems quick - got to perform a speed test yet, am tempted to buy another and configure for RAID

Just ordered another for £43.79 for raid configuration.

This is now £42.99
