Nice drive for the money...

Bought one of these when they were under £12 from OcUK a few weeks ago.

Basically it's not a bad drive, feels a bit unsubstantial and 'plasticy' and is pretty loud when burning at max speed but I haven't had any problems with it as yet. Haven't used the Lightscribe function so can't comment.

Worth noting with the retail box you get a standard SATA cable (not latched) and three bezels - beige, silver and black (which was a deal breaker for me as it's almost impossible to find a drive with a silver bezel these days). The black is fitted as standard and I'll admit it was a pig to change - be careful or you'll snap the flimsy plastic lugs.

Also comes with Nero Essentials which, as a relatively light user, I must admit is more than adequate and a welcome change from the bloatware that the full package has become.

Also worth noting - there is a very recent firmware upgrade available for this drive (got it direct from the Samsung site) so worth getting that sorted before you use it.

[edit] Aaargh! Just noticed this is the IDE version so obviously scrap what I said about the SATA cable. Don't know if you get an IDE cable, I'm guessing you do.

I have been looking for a cheap Lightscribe device and this sounds ideal. I am not sure about this PATA or SATA business though. My Dell dimension 3100 has (I think) SATA fixings. Does this mean this device in not compatible?
