Scorching, fairly sure it's the same model my mate paid £900 for just before xmas, albeit with a Blu-Ray player.

It has a 720p panel just for info

Not full Hd but then neither is Sky HD so suppose it depends what you use it for, Still seems good for the price

Pity is plasma. With electricity prices nowadays I would feel guilty using it!

Hot deal anyway.

Resolution will not greatly effect a 3D image 720p will look fine 1080p would look better. Refresh rate is what you want to look out for. As for being a plasma depends on what you are going to use the screen for plasma is generally better for films as produces better blacks lcd generally has a faster response time so is better for games no blur on fast moving images

Good deal I think

Sky HD is 1080i, which means no scaling on a 1920 x 1080 panel. Moreover, movies which are shot at 24fps (most movies other then made for TV) would be no different to a 1080p broadcast assuming your set can de-interlace correctly (aside from possible 24hz to 50hz conversion). In short ideally you'd want a 1080p panel for Sky HD.

WRT this set its a WXGA panel from a quick google. I don't believe you'll find much source material at that resolution, therefore scaling will always be involved. However, its a 50" 3D plasma with a pair of glasses for £514. Moreover, Samsung appear to be receiving some decent reviews for their Plasma sets. So unless you want to spend more or are prepared to forego the 3D functionality, I doubt anyone could be disappointed at this price.

1280 x 720 on a 50 inch tv ?? That unfortuantely is a little too low for such a big screen - you could get away with it on a 32inch, just about on a 42inch - but IMHO not a 50inch

This would be a great tv if you like a big picture and dont watch too much HD film.

At least it p*sses all over the 46nx713

Without a shadow of a doubt 1080p is better than 720p as it's twice the resolution, but's what the point of someone buying a 1080p set if it's of no benefit to them? This will be ideal for those that sit far enough away from the screen so that they won't be able to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. Distance from the TV effects how you will perceive the resolution.

It's a large TV which has good contrast levels and excellent colour reproduction. I've spent time with it instore and despite being an LCD fan I liked it. Couldn't see any flicker from it either unlike the Panasonic plasmas. Being Plasma it also doesn't suffer from crosstalk so much, it's a very good entry level 3D set of a large size. It may not be 1080p, but is very good value for money.

It does have the issue of the glasses losing sync though...

No they don't. Sky 3D is SBS (side by side), with 2 frames 960 x 1080i @ 50hz. If you view it on a standard set (or in 2D mode on a 3D set) you will see the two images broadcast side by side.

3D TV's using shutter glasses then de-interlace and stretch each frame to 1920 x 1080 and display them sequentially at 100hz. The glasses obviously ensuring you only see the frame meant for that eye.

Polarised panels using passive glasses show a 1920 x 540 image per eye, with each image split over odd and even lines on the panel. Not sure if they still de-interlace each SBS frame first.

I hear what you are saying but I personally wouldnt buy a 720p anything now. Yes Sky transmits at 720p and its not bad but my 1080p (non 3d) really pays for itself when I play a BluRay and the difference is very noticeable to me. At this price its a great deal for a few people but not for me.

Now try to use actual evidence to back up your posts. This might help the people wanting TRUE information.

Sky along with Virgin and Freeview HD output at 1080i, not 720p.

Ive goit this TV. had it for 3 weeks and absolutely love it!...do not hesitate if you want a 50’ a whole lot of bang for ur buck as r American idiot cousins would say. As for the whole 720 argument….go stick it! The standard def is amazing….the high def is great and the 3d looks no different from my mates full HD lg set. Hope this helps someone. Finally go to amazon.com (.COM,mind u) and search for the item and see how well it has been reviewed by the yanks!i did and im picky with these things and It does not disappoint. None of that makes sense. It depends on the viewing distance and not screen size alone, so what you are saying is nonsense.

Another thread decending into loveliness! I'm surprised someone hasn't said "this is an ipad (2)" yet...

Since when has 1080i been 720p? Thats nonsense. 1080i has a resolution of 1920 x 1080. 720p has a resolution of 1280 x 720. So how can 1080i equal 720p. On a 1080p or 1920 x 1080 TV, 1080i will look shed loads better than 720p and if your TV is good enough, the montion won't be bad either.

Didn't stop you from buying your Sony which also has a glass front from it's monolith design. Guess your Sony must also suffer from "Terrible glass reflection too.

You do release the Sony KDL-46NX713 has a plane of glass across the front don't you?

Any other excuses? Just how much is the price of a Sony KDL-46NX713 with transmitter and glasses? Google a phrase called "Bang for Buck".

Is it me, or anyone else just plain confused in this thread?! TMI.

1080p or not, I don't ever recall seeing a 50" 3D TV as low as £514.

Apple products are overpriced.
