First time poster here, so please forgive any mistakes.

A similar deal was on for the 37" version of this TV last week.

This TV has just had a further £35 knocked off the price making it just £645.

Using the SAVE25 code the price goes down to £619.

Go through quidco for 3.5% cashback (£21.66) which brings the price down to £597.34.

We went through Egg card too and got a further 3% back via that which made it approx £580 for this TV!

I've been looking around at LCD TVs and had decided on this one when it was £680.

PS sorry about the lack of pictures, please feel free to add any pictures and any other information neccessary to this deal.

Thanks guys

Well done, this offer makes Aldi look stupid with their Tevion offer on Sunday, lol.

how do you get quidco and egg? both require you to follow links from their own websites?

Original Poster

We went through Quidco and used an Egg card and both tracked.

If you read the T & C's on Egg's page it doesn't actually state you have to go through the egg link in relation to the Dixons cashback, you just have to pay with your egg card.

From experience, you go through Quidco and just use your Egg card to pay and you get both discounts.

i.e. no need to goto dixons via the Egg website.

This worked for me when I purchased an MP3 player from Dixons.

i thought we didn't include quidco reductions in the heading prices for deals? am i wrong?

Nope, only the 86/87 ones are 1080p.

BARGAIN!

I bought this and the 32" a few months back and they are quality tvs for the money. Can anyone actually tell the difference when viewing between a 720 and 1080?

The R86, R87 and R88 all have exactly the same spec, the only difference between them is purely cosmetic.

And none of them are 1080p.

Normally the owners of anoraks can ;-)

I got a 42" HD Samsung Plasma from Costco for £720 and it has the same no of HDMI inputs as this does. I was blown away by the quality and value. This might be an option for those with a Costco card and cash if they want a bigger screen size. I'm not going to open up the can of worms regarding plasma VS LCD though :whistling:

Still a good price from the OP though

No, max resolution: 1366 x 768 i.e.: 720p

its the m87/86 and f87/86 that are 1080p

Dont get hung up on 1080p tho, especially in smaller TV sizes (up to 42").

But even in larger tellies, 1080p isnt always the best, check out the reviews on trustedreviews website where the best displayed image by a telly they have ever tested is "only" 1365 x 768, and thats with a 50" TV!

trustedreviews.com/tvs…/p1

Basically my point is dont get hung up on numbers, make sure from reviews that:
1) The telly has enough HDMI ports for you (e.g. 2 or 3)
2) The telly accepts 1080p into the HDMI ports
3) There are reviews which are positive about the picture quality or youve had a chance to get to see one working!

This is a good price for a nice telly!

I am so tempted........ I got one from Debenhams a couple of months ago (when they were super cheap) and was thinking of getting on (32/37") for my bedroom..... at this price it's so damm tempting

Fantastic deal, especially as it's a samsung with freeview

I have the 37" M86 - 1080p and this is vastly better that my previous samsung 720p set. It does depend on what you will use it for and how close you sit to TV. I have MCE running through it and if you are heading down this route at any stage then definately go for 1080p. Viewing photos is the most obvious display of difference, but upscaled DVDs and media files look a whole lot better. The HD DVD/BR DVD speaks for itself and if you do like your anoraks, the M8 series can do [email protected] I.e. native HD with no fram rate compromises.

Either way, Samsung are making great pannels at the moment and would recomend them - just ensure that the one you get will still service you in a year or two. :w00t:

This really does make the Tevion at Aldi redundant I think, us doubters of the Aldi set have had some bad rap for voting it cold and saying to spend that bit extra for something better.....well this is definitely that something!

Voted hot, if I was on the lookout for a 40" set from a decent brand, with decent reviews, this is where my money would go, a true hotukdeal.

Riiiiiiight - the reviews on that site are biased. Just check what does well and who advertises....

don't beleive one site - I would go to a specialist group of sites, the first most likely for tv content would be www.avforums.com

Got one of these t.v's, picture is great, sound is average..... would recommend.
GO FOR IT!!!!!

John

So very very tempted + the wife is away this week.......... dare I do it

Just ordered, been looking for a decent price 40" having missed out on the last big samsung bargain.

Beng delivered on the 27th

thanks!

So excited!!! just ordered one wohoo! finally going HD and can't wait. Thanks to op, just hope I'm not disappointed though.

I believe this is one of the models that required a firmeware fix last week. This was sent out over the air for 2 days to fix the internal freeview judder problem. Tv's purchased now are likely to have an older firmware, so you may now need an engineer visit to do the upgrade....

HELP

Is this a good buy or not?

It's for the living room and i want a good picture.

Help

Yes its a good buy. My Quidco tracked within 1 hour so £600 for a 40" Samsung is a bargain! If in doubt head down to Currys/ Comet to check it out. Bear in mind though that Dixons are **** at setting it up properly and it will only be showing SD (which still looks damn pretty good IMO). Ask the guys there to set up a dvd player and then watch it, you'll be impressed i'm sure

I can't say i know a great deal about this but if its something that can be fixed 'over the air' i'm sure they'll be sending it more than once. I've heard about this freeview stutter problem and the firmware seems to fix it. If necessary i'll be on the phone to samsung to see if they are intending to update the firmware again, TBH though i'm not sure i'll be using freeview anyway. Thanks for pointing out though:thumbsup:

Nope, Still £644! You need to apply the discount code

For anyone doubting this deal, i have just been into Comet and they are charging £849!!!!

You sure? The price i'm seeing now is £653 - SAVE25 Code.

Weird, still showing £644 for me on the link, try a forced refresh.

dixons.co.uk/mar…als

Ah, OK, just added it to the basket and it shows as £653!!?!? thats a bit cheeky.

Will Still work out around £620 if you go down the quidco route.

Expired!!!!

Ordered anyway. Need it as a gift.

I ordered at weekend hoping it will come on Thursday along with a stand

Arrived today...love it!!!

Bit dissapointed with my sky picture though, i know it's prob not the tv's fault but any advice on how to make it better. I tweaked colour, sharpness etc and got some joy but the footie wasn't the best to watch, really quite fuzzy round edges etc. I'm just running a scart from sky box to tv by the way.

any advice would be greatly appreciated

anyone any ideas?
