Samsung 40" UE40H6400 LED 3D Smart TV £379 @ John Lewis

The Samsung UE40H6400 is a 40" LED HD 1080p 3D Smart TV, with Freeview HD, Voice Control and 2x 3D Glasses. It is £379 including free home delivery. I have placed an order and I have a delivery slot at the end of next week.

It has been £449 for most of the last month, with recent reductions to £400ish at John Lewis and Richer Sounds and now a Black Friday discount to £379. Both of these places give a 5 year guarantee.

There are 4 HDMI ports, 3 USB ones, a wired network socket and built in WiFi. It comes with 2 pairs of active shutter 3D glasses.

Compared to the UE40H5500, you get a second Bluetooth remote control and the Clear Motion Rate is 400Hz instead of 100Hz, so there should be less motion blur. The H6400 also lets you control the sound from a Samsung HW-H355 soundbar from the TV remote. With the H5500 you would need to use the soundbar remote.

The screen gets good reviews. One issue has been with the lip syncing between the sound and images when you watch Freeview on the internal tuner. From the sounds of discussions on avforums, this can be worked around with settings. There have also been some updates to the firmware.

You can get the same price at Richer Sounds, also with a 5 year guarantee.

The Samsung page on this model, with links to PDFs of the manuals http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/tv-audio-video/televisions/flat-tvs/UE40H6400AKXXU

You can also get a free WAM250 multiroom hub from http://www.samsung.com/uk/offer/multiroom
However, from reading hdtvsolutions.com/Sam…htm it looks like you need to spend a fair amount extra on speakers to use with this.

You may also get a 3 month subscription to Deezer and 12 months movies from Mubi at samsung.com/uk/…sic (although I've read that the selection of movies at Mubi is rather poor). The TV is one of the models in that offer, but It doesn't list John Lewis as a participating dealer. The Richer Sounds listing does link to the Deezer/Mubi deal.

been waiting to see if the price dropped on this... and it did...ordered :-)

Great find! Would love this as perfect size for our room but OH wants one with all of the above plus freesat so the hunt continues.

Nice price!

Does it come with the mubi and deezer offer?

This one from Samsung can be controlled directly from the TV remote samsung.com/uk/…/XU There is a review of that here sound-bar.net/sam…ew/

I was thinking of buying the 32" of this series then realised this larger one is cheaper lol. Now I wonder if this tv will fit in the corner of my room

The offer of wma250 says "in store", anyone got one via Web?

Sorry wam250!

it's just a hub not a speaker, just worth pointing out ;/)

Yes, and also a WAM250 multiroom hub

It doesn't say anything on the JL website about all of these options....

Anyone know if this will screen mirror from my samsung phone?

The Pocket Lint review for this TV pocket-lint.com/rev…iew says

The set can also Screen Mirror your Android phone using Miracast,

If your phone also supports the mirroring, then it should work. I bought a Galaxy S4 Mini a couple of weeks ago, and when I was reading around about that, I found a link which explicitly mentioned some supported TV models and this one was on the list. I daresay changes to the firmware on the phone and the TV could break things, but in theory it should work.

I'm a bit confused (and obviously clueless) but what is the difference between this and the H6240? Which one would people advise to go for?

Help!

s21.com/sam…htm compares the UE40H6200 and the UE40H6400. Differences are that you only get the normal remote, and not the Bluetooth one, the refresh rate is 200Hz instead of 400Hz, and it doesn't come with 3D glasses.

It ends up saying

The UE40H6200 is a slightly less assured TV than the next model up - the … The UE40H6200 is a slightly less assured TV than the next model up - the Samsung UE40H6400. Although they look almost the same and have near-identical specs, the H6400 definitely has a more polished picture quality and a slimmer design.

I don't have time to work out the differences between a UE40H6200 and a UE40H6240, but it looks like they both have the 200Hz refresh rate, which gives the motion blur.

Is it worth paying the 100 pound more for this TV, rather than the LG one advertised yesterday? (Mainly used for gaming) thanks.

It doesn't say anything about the guarantee though, so it will be 1 or 2 years instead of 5 from John Lewis. It is an "F" model instead of an "H" one, so it is a bit older.

This is a good TV, I bought one earlier in the week for £399 from Richer Sounds.

Picture quality is great, mine has no backlight bleed at all. Very happy with it.

I agree. Only better thing is freesat, and with everyone (almost) having a satellite subscription or freeview then it's certainly not a deal breaker. This for £379 is great value!

Picking one of these up from Currys today, same price.

The price is £389 for me, and comes with "Pixmania's 24 month commercial warranty". Pixmania have a much worse reputation for customer service than John Lewis, and I've seen people say that they sell European models which don't work so well with Freeview in the UK.

I was playing Halo Master Chief Collection on mine last night and it seemed fine. (in Game mode)

Damn I want this in the 48" flavour. Great review on avforums and hdtvtest.

Anyone seen any good deals on the 48" version?

John Lewis out of stock on-line 13:00 on Fri 28 Nov

I have just ordered a 48 inch version of this TV from JL, is it exactly the same specifications, the 48 inch 6400 has not been reduced for BF anywhere afaics.
