Doesn't seem to be on sale at any other retailer, is it an old model?

Original Poster

not sure. looks like a good deal to me though.

Just seems odd there are no reviews, no mention of it on AVforums, etc.

Yeah, I think its an old model. Pretty good price if you specifically want a 50" 1080p plasma.

Not in a million years, is it worth the original £1999 price though.

Our first 50" plasma was double that!!! twas 3 years ago now mind!!

Crazy isn't it, I was looking at some rear projection tv's last night on ebay going for under £100, they were £1850 new a few years ago.

Mmmmm, how technology moves on and gets cheaper (misty eyed...)

Dixons seem to be selling this model for £979, so this is a pretty good deal.

Can't be too old as I don't think 1080p plasmas (no matter the size) go back that far.

I think Bargain Crazy have a tendency to exaggerate 'RRPs'. They were claiming that the X360 Premium package was over £450 in that earlier post, which is way over the odds.

this is an old tv i can tell you that just based on the spec of the tv alone, its a good tv for people who want quantity of quality but i assure you can get better in this day and age for that money and that price tag is purely the pricetag that item first came out many many moons ago .

before anyone considers buying check out the which report on it -

This huge 50inch plasma IDTV from Samsung boasts an impressive range of features, but it uses tons of energy and has poor sound quality.

A run down of the spec sheet sounds fantastic; however, the sensitivity of the digital tuner is fairly poor and, as a result, could struggle to pick up decent pictures in a weak reception area.

There were issues with colour reproduction in both standard and high definition, and the picture blurs slightly if viewed from too acute a viewing angle. The sound was slightly harsh and edgy, and a background buzz was detected when listening in Nicam and AV, that our expert felt would drive the listeners mad.

This TV has 2 Scart sockets, 1 of which carries the superior RGB video signal, and can trigger a compatible VCR or DVDr to record via the EPG. It has 3 HDMI sockets and supports 1080p/24, so should be suitable for high definition DVD use.

There are recessed side inputs for easily connecting and disconnecting camcorders or games consoles, and audio-wise it can be connected to a hi-fi via the phono plugs, or to a surround sound system via an optical digital output. A PC can be connected via analogue VGA, and the text looks small but good.

Although the remote control is cluttered and oversized, it has the facility to light up the buttons to aid use in a dimly lit room. This TV falls short of the Energy Saving Trust’s requirements for power use. If you watch this model straight out of the box it will consume a ridiculous 500 watts.

Pros: Very easy to use, intuitively structured on screen menu

Cons: Power use, poor sound

does PS5096FDX/XEU suggest its a series 6 panel???

I'm no Samsung fanboy so am not fully up to date, but I think Samsung are on series 8 now.

my mate has this exact model and he paid about £1700 for it,its an amazing set,

Just wondering what other buyers experience of Bargain Crazy is ? Dunno why, the site just looks a bit dodgy to me.....

i'll confirm, the which report gave it 48% - pretty awful SD and HD pic quality, high power consumption, poor sound reproduction - there are much better sets out there for not much more money.......

damn, wish this was the lcd version :P

& everyone knows how overpriced catalogs are.

Personally think you'll get a better deal elswhere. Richersounds is a good place to look.

mmm. Seems like a bargain at first glance but I would be wary. Cant find anything online about it. Although I didn`t look up which magazine as someone posted it on here. Methinks anyone thinking of buying would be best to have a good root about the internet to see if there is more information on it somewhere.

I'm not 100% sure but think it may be this TV, spec seems similar:?

PS-50P96FD code is similar to PS5096FDX/XEU, if it is it gets great reviews here if you look down at the expert reviews section.

If it is then it seems hot to me, heat & rep added.

Seems like an absolute bargain. Might be worthwhile upgrading. My set is a LCD Samsung, 2 years old and only 40". Does anyone have any idea how much I could get for it?

This link seems to confirm my theory, both product codes seem to be shown (Looks like Bargain Crazy missed a 'P' out of their product code)

Just been reading up on this, I think this is Samsung's first attempt at a 50" 1080p set and it seems it's a pretty poor one at that,

Still a good price for a 1080p set tho.

For those who just want a 50" set without much concern about quality try

£689 amazon.co.uk/exe…new
£749 pixmania.co.uk/uk/…oui

1080p plasma and 3 HDMIs?

Doesn't sound that old to me...

Don't all modern TVs have rubbish sound anyway?
I don't think this TV is going to be unique in that respect.

Get a home cinema system.
