WHats PWM ..... :-/

PWM - Pulse Width Modulation. Flickering of the backlight to adjust brightness.

Some of the symptoms are eystrain, headaches, tiredness, irritation and effects on the nervous system similar to a caffeine overdose. It's been phased out of all PC monitors but only Sony has made the effort to remove PWM from their TVs thus far.

Heat 🔥 added. It's been some time since last deal with similar TV and price.

Anyone got this tv or a model similar?

Do Samsung TV's now run Android or is that just Sony TV's? Wondering if there is a benefit of Sony or Samsung these days or vice versa because of whatever 'OS' they run?

samsung runs its own OS called Tizen i believe

I can this has 10-bit HDR support, but cannot see how many HDMI's are 2.2? I guess all of them?

Samsung use 'Tizen'. It's an in-house os common to many of their devices such as TV's, blu-ray players, a few phones and watches. Sony only use android on their xe80 series and above, otherwise it's their own Opera derived os.

LED tvs should be different, older lcd used a cathode backlight that caused pwm, 100 to 200hz screens shouldnt cause pwm.

PWM is not related to the backlight technology or refresh rate of the display.

All TVs other than Sony use PWM.

Does the code work for collection too?

Brilliant! Just bought for £449...needed a new TV to replace my 10 year old fabby Samsung. At that price it's a steal!
Thanks K_S!!

Does it have a headphone jack?

Yeah I didn’t mean overall ports, I meant HDMI standard on the 3 ports (1.0/1.4/2.0a/2.0b/2.2). 1.4 upscales and 2.0+ carries a 4k signal.

Is this a 10-bit or 8-bit panel?

Also does this have a headphone jack?

Are all the HDMI sockets 2.0/upwards?

Sorry can't find this information on Samsung website specification sheet!

Think samsung use tizen. Was put off a Sony TV due to android on it as it runs like a bag of dog mess so clunky and slow.Tizen on the Samsung's is easier.

It's a £450 TV so it'll be 8-bit. A 10-bit panel is a minor refinement only found on top of the range TVs which already have more influential improvements.

If you're asking because of HDR then the panel bit depth isn't an important factor there either. This TV isn't wide gamut and doesn't have a local dimming system. It's an SDR TV with the ability to read HDR video.

All 4K TVs now have HDMI 2.0 support on some of their ports. This has support for the full bandwidth and HDCP 2.2 on three HDMI ports.

Been prowling for a 4K HDR deal since I got stung with others here by the Curry's Hisense 55" farce the other week and this even makes up for that disappointment. Ordered & genuine thanks to the OP for posting

If black Friday wasn't around the corner this TV would have been mine. Heat

Awesome, all of the Samsungs appear to be on great deals at Argos just now and the TVSAVE code works on them all. I’ve been looking for a deal on the 40” for a while and this it! Thanks OP!

I have the 40” version of this and I’m very happy with it, picture quality is very good

I'm on the hunt for a Tv too, maybe a stupid question but is a Samsung significantly better than comparable size hisense HDR / 4K tvs being mentioned on here lately

£377 for a Hisense or £449 for a Samsung. I'd say the extra £72 would be a wise investment. Samsung's a good brand with decent support.

Excuse my ignorance but is this the same thing? And would John Lewis price match?

I have been wondering about the pros and cons of android on a TV. Having seen updates to Android make phones & tablets un-useable, or the phone / tablet left behind because there was no Android update, I do wonder about the benefits of having a TV running Android.
