First we had 3D, nowt happened with that. Now 4K...the start of a resolution war, and nowt will happen with that. I have a fine 55" Samsung 3D/HD and the only 3D films available are complete hooey. There are (perhaps) a couple of cardboard cutout documentaries I've been mildly impressed with but all in all 3D is a dying gimmick.

Apple kicked off with 5K displays this year and 8K sets are under development. Thing is, like 3D, no one is producing any decent ultra high res media to display on these TV's. If I'd known how limited and rubbish 3D (technology) sets were before I purchased one I'd have settled for a standard HD model and waited until 2020 before considering a new purchase.

What planet are you on? YouTube and Netflix are both already streaming in 4k. Believe me this format will take off.

3D didn't take off because people don't like wearing 3D glasses, nothing else. 4k will be the standard in the future.

I have no idea what YouTube and Netflix are. I receive BBC, ITV, etc., Are you saying there are TV programme production companies who are transmitting 4K data television shows? If so, what resolution will they all agree to settle on as so many competing ultra HD formats are being prototyped. Also, what percentage of broadcast scheduling is transmitted in 4K? It takes years and years to establish a standard and with tech companies all lobbying for their tech preferentially over their competitors where is that going to leave consumers...? Upgrading their TV's every year or two? That's bonkers. I record in HD and SD, HD is great for documentaries and drama but I much prefer films in SD as more often than not HD makes much of the CGI trickery distractingly obvious.

This deal is no longer available.. But it was an amazing deal
