Ask Amazon to reduce the price for you, they usually do if it was only a couple of days ago. Unless of course you didn't buy from Amazon, in which case, bad luck son.

I can't resist any longer.

I couldn't have put it better myself.

Do you only need a SATA to USB adapter lead if replacing a laptop HDD?
I intend using one in an aging desktop (Dell Dimesion E520)

Does this do encryption? if so would I need a pro version of windows like the crucial m500

I'm no expert but yes I believe a SATA to USB adapter is all you would need, as it's supplied with Samsung's migration software.. but as I said I'm no expert so it's probably best to google it.

I honestly wouldn't know, you'll have to google that.

Heat and a significant deal because it breaks the £100 barrier.

can't be sure about this one, but the unit i received from Amazon didn't include any cables at all, though it did include a handy quick start guide that tells you how to use the cables they didn't supply...

formatted mine though GParted and cloned my Windows partition to it, for a laptop user, unless you have access to a PC what's included in the box may not be enough to install the drive.

It's pretty much guaranteed to be lower throughout the next week. Hopefully anyway. Have some heat:)

Yeah it will no doubt keep falling, but I think a lot of people will pick it up now, as it's gone sub £100.

Been waiting an age for these to drop below £100,cheers OP nice find, Scorchio!!

I appreciate your enthusiasm but how is something so hot also thirst quenching? It doesn't make any sense

Definitely pay the extra and get it direct from Amazon. It's not worth messing around with third party sellers if anything goes wrong just to save a few quid.

Yeah I've mentioned in the description it's only 78p more directly from Amazon, definitely worth doing to get away from the hassle of a third party.

Yes, this has built in encryption (just set a password in your BIOS) and is also OPAL certified. More here:

you need USB3 (its blue inside) to get the full benefit of a drive this fast, on USB2 your wasting your money.

Hi,

I have a HP 14-b006sa with 750GB SATA 5400 rpm + 32GB SSD set up as a cache drive (Intel Smart Response). The boot time is approx 8 seconds

So if i replace the 750gb sata in the notebook with the Samsung EVO, will there be any considerable improvement in the performance?

Thanks

love this, thanks op xx

If you are cloning the drive (using say clonezilla) you can use an external hard-drive to save the clone copy and then switch the drives and copy the clone onto the ssd from the external, no extra cable required.

Be aware though, general advice is to just switch the drives and reinstall a fresh copy of windows onto the SSD. (apart from the usual benefits of a new copy I believe this ensures all the minor SSD relevant settings are correct and aligned etc.)

Firstly I'm amazed you have an 8 second boot time with a 5400rpm HDD.. but yes, any SSD will provide a significant improvement in performance over any notebook HDD, and the Samsung 840 EVOs are one of the best in their price class.

Sounds like that cache SSD is (doing it's job) making it pretty fast already! Doubt you will see much gain
(in boot time)

I paid £134 a few months ago from same seller, its made a huge difference... Gutted on on the £35 i didn't save.

I installed mine today (ordered yesterday) and the drive comes with migration software which was pretty straightforward. It is only a bare drive, I ordered one of these to go with it

2.5" to 3.5" Mounting adapter

How do you go about contacting them to get the difference back?

I've never personally done it but if you look through the comments on this post a couple of people have contacted them and got the difference back so I'm sure they'd help you out if you messaged them.

Scorchio!

Ordered, thanks OP. My 50GB OCZ will be relegated to the HTPC I think.
