I wouldn't bother
Wait for a while as newer 850s are coming out soon and the prices for these drives will drop even further.

and I thought I had got a great deal when I ordered one from Amazon for £125..... Ho Hum!

Smells of a takedown to me, as it was showing as available in all of my local stores just 60 seconds before it went out-of-stock.

I thought that would happen with the 830 when the 840 (non-pro)came out but there was hardly any difference in price when I looked and there wasn't much stock of the 830 anywhere.

256GB in stock again...

Should be unexpired as all are back in stock.

Cheers, wild goose chase this morning and got 2x 256gb and 1x128gb from stores.

Not expired as stores have them at this price!!!

In stock.

Just grabbed the 256gb after refreshing for a few minutes this morning at 09:46 cheers op

Actually, I am going to give this a miss, I am sure I have been here before with Currys in/out of stock "bargains" and end up chasing for my money when they decide its a website error
Its a good deal for sure, but I am not desperate for one or anything.

Need to unexpire. 512gb back in stock. Very tempted and nearly got myself one until I checked my bank balance!

Great deal!!

Just placed an order for a 512Gb one for store collection tomorrow. So, they're still available.

I have been trying to purchase 512gb, but OOS.

Sadly the 256 is not in stock any more.

Don't need one.

128GB model has lower seq write/ read than Evo: 390/530 compared to 410/540- but better write iops

Yes, but it also has much better NAND chips which should be more reliable/last longer.

Just checked order status and it says will be dispatched when stock is available. Anyone else get this?

I got this recently:
ballicom.co.uk/0j2…AAw

Very good drive - 3year warranty - will get 1tb ssd sams..850 1TB once about £250-...long wait..;-)
It's really when you have over 5 apps open SSD is useful + I have 16gb mem...No need for ssd..also i7 big ++
And ...true ssd prices will go down and S 850 is good - really good - wont go for anything else !!

Cheers

Hmm, well this has been argued to death here. Anandtech or someone came to the conclusion that the Evo should last for around fifty years with average use, and most folks will probably upgrade within the three year warranty anyway. The biggest plus for the pro 128GB v Evo 120GB is the better write iops. Besides that, I'm not sure what else?

Yeah I already have three SSDs in my main rig - 2x Vertex 4's and MSATA Crucial M500 anyway, plus a 750GB SSHD (hybrid) drive. Just contemplating going up in size, but I just wasn't sure I would use the old one's afterwards and both my server and laptop already have one in too I think the only worthwhile speed upgrade (not that 3 or 4 seconds boot up is anything to be worried about anyway) will be the PCI-E based cards which are still to expensive.
Sure these will be on Amazon and the like at these prices soon with the new models on the way

The fact that the pro will last over 3 times longer? You might upgrade every 3 years, but not everyone will.

If you write, on average, 20GB a day (which is a fair estimation when you take paging, hibernation writes, updates, system operations, etc), a 128GB 840 Evo will last an estimated 5.8 years. Under the same 20gb a day usage, the 840 pro will last an estimated 17.5 years. A 128GB 840 Evo would only last more than 50 years if you wrote less than 2GB a day.

IMO, the evo (and other TLC based drives) are disposable. You can't really retire it from your laptop, and put it in another machine, or repurpose it.
