Samsung 850 Evo 250GB SSD 2.5inch Solid State Drive @ Amazon - £79.77

Found 13th Jan
Been looking for a decent spec 250GB SSD and this is the cheapest Samsung 250GB I've found. Tad more expensive than the Sandisk drive I got last year for £50 but hey ho!
Few quid saving if you fancy an Amazon warehouse deal @ £76.57 Used-Like New.

Torn between this and the Crucial which has a 5 year warranty. Comments welcomed from those with a bit more knowledge than me.

I want an ssd but haven't got a clue between them either.
There's also a kingston uv400 with fitting kit for 80 quid too.

Samsung are always the best drives.
Crucial mx500 on Amazon for £70, personally would get that as it's supposedly a better everyday performer. Can't go far wrong with Samsung tho

What?

'a better everyday performer'

Simply there are no better drives than Samsung, your claim is based off nothing. You can read every benchmark, review, anything about Samsung drives and they beat every single one of their competitors.
Samsung my first choice but I've got Crucial and a number of Sandisks (when they were £30 for 120GB) and all brands have so far not failed.

This is the best drive you can get for the money. Fitted dozens and they are a really good drive.

Same all much of a muchness really
While the drive is ok, the software for managing it is dire, “Samsung magician”
I’d avoid next time just for that

This is just completely wrong. Plenty of benchmarks/reviews out there saying the new mx500s are at least competitive and in a lot of situations a better option than the 850 EVOs. Given the price disparity as well they're definitely worth thinking about.

Price is irrelevant. I said Samsung drives are the best. You can say what you want and believe you've seen benchmarks that say otherwise (you haven't)

Benchmarks don't exist, price is irrelevant, "Samsung drives are the best". Thanks for the contribution.

To stay on point, this is a good deal for an excellent SSD drive, there are other excellent options out there tho.
Do some research, know what you need it for, don't just buy because it's Samsung. Outside of extreme use scenarios you won't see any real difference in performance between SSDs (maybe you'll boot a second quicker if you have your OS on it), so reliability and price become the main factors.
The samsung has a lot lower number of r/w opps compared to the mx500 before the memory chips start to fall. And the 5 year warranty compared to 3 .

Interesting! I was unaware the 256/512gb drives were out yet. Any reputable reviews for these models? All decent reviews point to the 1TB MX500 as a worthy competitor to the 1TB 850 Evo, but I'd need to see benchmarks of the 256GB before i bite (as that's the one i'll likely buy).

What is wrong with that software in your opinion?? I've been using it for 5 years and never gone wrong once.

They are pretty good and at work we bought a batch of 60 new Samsung drives for refitting machines and have had 3 dead out of the box ones. They have been replaced with no issues but they are in my experience no better or worse than any other manufacturer

Hi, I'm using Samsung SSD from a year now and my laptop boots in 7 seconds.
Before the SSD, it was booting in about 4 - 4.5 minutes.
I highly recommend Samsung SSD. Mine was Samsung 850 PRO which is about 29 quid expensive than this one.
I have one of these in all 4 PCs I run in the house, just got another one for £75 with the Amazon £5 top-up deal. MY old EVO 830 is still going strong too, amazing drives.
