Lowest this bundle offer has been that I am aware of - now down to £134.99

Samsung 860 Evo 500gb - Comes with a digital PC edition of Far Cry 5 which still seems to be holding its price - selling currently for £44.99 on CDkeys

So if you were going to buy the game anyway (or possibly resell the game if no interest) looks a decent price

Ahhh, they daily deal on the 500GB SSD. Price slowly coming down, pound by pound
An 860 Evo 500GB with a free game- how can this be anything but hot!
Certainly hot. I had been looking at the 850 models for around £100 being good.
Can this be used as external hard drive?

No reason why not. Just stick it in a SATA caddy like you would a HDD although not sure you'd be able to take full advantage of the speeds it can operate at if connecting via USB.

I'm planning to put it into an external enclosure. See no problems.
Bought an 850 evo for £100 right before this was posted =/ is there a big difference in performance with the 860?
Thank you both. Ordered

Any suggestions?
Very tempted by this...stuck at work and will need to check it fits my rig when I get home (it’s an HP Omen prebuilt so no idea what it looks like inside )

I got one of these: amazon.co.uk/gp/…c=1

But I imagine most under £15 will be doing the same job. It also comes with usb c option instead of sata.

Funnily, Currys have the 850 500GB at £144.97 and labelled it CLEARANCE - Robbing stewards!
£132.99 from CCL, also comes with FC5.
Good price even without the Far Cry 5 deal.

If you're yet to invest in an SSD drive now would be the time.

The 860 is actually about 6% slower overall compared to the 850 but about 3% faster on sequential reads. To be honest you're unlikely to notice any significant difference in real world use. The main benefit of the 860 is the reliability of the newer technology so Samsung have doubled the warrantied total bytes written from 150 to 300 Terrabytes.

That was my reading of the figures and given there was about £40 difference between them three or so weeks ago I went 850. Shame I didn't wait as the price for 860, factoring in FC, is actually chapear. But if you keep waiting you would never buy!

I wouldn’t worry too much, Far Cry is crazy expensive right now, give it a month or two and it will be around £20.
Out of stock.

Or USB-C.

USB C is a connector, not a USB version.

What's the point in an external enclosure as surely you're limited by USB bandwidth. Just as well get a mechanical drive like a transcend military grade that's cheaper, larger capacity

It will be limited to usb 3 speeds yes, but usb 3 has a high theoretical top speed, I expect that an SSD will be hitting over 400 MB/s. Other external mech drives may have a usb 3 connection but will likely not hit those speeds.

Also, I can open the enclosure when I have need for an SSD and use it at full capacity, may as well be a bit future proof.

Nope! Good purchase!
If anyone wants to sell Far Cry 5 I’ll take it off their hands.
It takes two weeks to get the Far Cry code if you order online with Currys. Then you'll probably have to call a few times?
Buy in shops if you can.

You'll be able to throw it about and not worry and it will max out usb 3. Should be a nice portable drive if slightly overkill.
HI guys,

I am in need of a 1TB SSD.

I have just seen on ebuyer a 1TB samsung 860 EVO SATA II mSATA for £250

Is that just as fast as these?
The 500GB 850 is currently £99.99 at Aria, so this looks like a good deal with the game included.
I presume the Far Cry 5 game code is not for Steam?

Keys for ubisoft games always activate directly on uPlay.
(Although you would still need to use uPlay if purchased on steam anyway)
Keeps going in and out of stock, managed to purchase the drive tonight finally
