Samsung PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD 980 PRO4000445_1.jpg
Unleash the power of the Samsung PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD 980 PRO for your next-level computing. Leveraging the PCIe 4.0 interface, the 980 PRO delivers double the data transfer rate of PCIe 3.0 while being backward compatible for PCIe 3.0 for added versatility.

Maximum speedPowered by Samsung custom Elpis Controller for PCIe 4.0 SSD, the 980 PRO is optimised for speed. It delivers read speeds up to 7,000 MB/s¹, making it 2 times faster than PCIe 3.0 SSDs² and 12.7 times faster than SATA SSDs. The 980 PRO achieves max speeds on PCIe 4.0 and may vary in other environments³.

A winning combination
Designed with hardcore gamers and tech-savvy users in mind, the 980 PRO offers high-performance bandwidth and throughput for heavy-duty applications in gaming, graphics, data analytics, and more. It's fast at loading games so you can play more and wait less.

Efficient M.2 SSD
The 980 PRO comes in a compact M.2 2280 form factor, which can be easily plugged into desktops and laptops for maximum board design flexibility. The drive is suitable for building high-performance computing systems due to its optimised power efficiency.

Smart thermal solution
Embedded with Samsung's cutting-edge thermal control algorithm, the 980 PRO manages heat on its own to deliver durable and reliable performance. To minimise performance fluctuations in the long haul, Samsung's Dynamic Thermal Guard technology maintains the 980 PRO's temperature at optimal levels.

Reliable thermal control
High-performance SSDs usually require high-performance thermal control. To ensure stable performance, the 980 PRO uses nickel coating to help manage the controller's heat level and a heat spreader label to deliver effective thermal control of the NAND chip.

Would highly recommend paying the extra 98p to get from Amazon Direct. No sign of EpicEasy Ltd on the participating retailers for cashback

A bit cheaper from Samsung EPP website. They have it for £214.20. So should work out to £134.20 with cash back
    Good call!

Just got mine delivered and tried to redeem the cashback but the system says the serial number is not valid!
    Anyone else having this issue?
I thought I was sent a previously cashback registered/returned unit or a fake, when 'serial number not valid' warning appeared during initial attempt to submit my cashback request.

At first I thought it was due to an O instead of 0 as the cause, but then discovered that the final character is omitted from the serial number printed on the box's external sticker.

I suspect it's Samsung's ploy to prevent flipping on eBay as a brand new/unopened whilst nabbing the cashback.
Full serial number is on the actual drive, so time to carefully peel the box's seal sticker using wizardry, or else you can forget about conjuring £80 out of thin air if you intend on flipping on eBay. (edited)

Samsung EPP isn't listed as a participating retailer. Does anyone have confirmation that cashback will be paid out?
I ordered via Totum using the Samsung Student link.

Purchased 3 x 2TB 980 Pro (without Heatsink) for £214.20 each, on the checkout page I clicked the TCB link, and got cashback as well.

As soon as it was delivered, I received the invoice from Samsung via email and claimed the cashback.

Was approved 10 seconds after completing the process.

So... YES, this does work with EPP / Student.

Cost per stick for was :

    £214.20 - £80 (cashback) - £6.43 (TCB) = £127.78

The invoice mentions nothing about Samsung EPP/Student, it just says Samsung.Com, which it is. The only thing to identify any discount, is the discount listed next to the invoice total. (edited)

This is with heatsink right thanks ,never bought one before going with the German Amazon route

You need the version WITHOUT the heatsink. They have different model numbers and the cashback page only lists the BW model i.e. no heatsink.

    Without heatsink = MZ-V82T0BW
    With heatsink = MZ-V8P2T0CW

Good find but not sold and dispatched by Amazon so not covered by the cashback.

need to buy from Amazon DIRECT

Mine arrived about 30 mins ago from EPP store for £214, put in the cashback claimed and it got approved in about 30 seconds!
its the same price with the student discount unidays
  9. Avatar
Great price, but as others have mentioned you must purchase this as Sold by Amazon, otherwise you will not be able to claim cashback.
    So from Amazon uk yes
  10. Avatar
Am I right in thinking that - using a USB 3.2/C enclosure - this would be limited to 10GBPS, please? Think I’d need a gen 2x2 enclosure for 20GBPS
Yes, and even then you'll probably get throttling and heat issues due to a lack of airflow.

Has anyone had confirmed cashback by using the student Samsung page. I can see the EPP site looks ok. Just wanted to confirm the student one is good, before purchasing. (edited)
    Yes I can confirm this
  12. Avatar
Is EPP or student discount eligible for the cashback? Thanks
Yes I believe that they are. Just ensure you purchase the correct models, model numbers can be found in the link in the description. Unfortunately the 2TB 980 Pro is out of stock
  13. Avatar
To anyone doing the claim, you need to look at the serial number on the drive, not on the packaging or the invioce

Sadly not a good deal, the crucial is faster and £40+ cheaper. Without the deal.

With the deal and all the effort I'd still buy the crucial because its faster, not by much but whatever.

I will note when it comes to these speeds you won't notice much difference between them, and you would be hard pushed to notice any difference between these 7000 speed ones and the 3300/4000 speed. (edited)
Crucial's aren't the best SSD makers. The P5 plus I assume you're talking about has good PC Mark's scores but it's actual real world usage isn't as good as the 980 Pro. It has sub par sustained write performance, high power consumption and less than average efficiency under load. If you look at reviews like Tom's Hardware, they'll recommend the Samsung 980 Pro over the P5 plus if excluding price.

Crucial and Kingston compete for the budget end with the latter although slightly more expensive, being a better drive.

This deal is about the final price, and you're paying £150 for a 980 Pro vs £189 for Crucial P5 plus, makes this an excellent deal.

If you want the best M.2 Gen 4's then look at WD SN850X or Hynix P41 Platinum, alternatively if you are a content creator, look at drives with high read/write cycles e.g. Firecuda 530.

Prices on M.2 may drop more over the next 6 months as Gen 5 drives become available but you have to factor in the weak sterling.

These were £170 a few weeks ago now £220. I'm guessing during black Friday they will be priced around £150.
Think you need to re-read the deal...
  16. Avatar
Damn, shame the 2TB is out of stock from the EPP site. £134.20 for 2TB would have been nice. Ended up getting the 1TB for £118.14, so £78.14 after cashback. Not quite as good as what the 2TB equiv would be at £67.20/TB but decent I guess... Hopefully the 2TB comes back in stock on the EPP.
i spook to CS and they will have the 2TB back in stock next week.

Thanks, sifer69, I just submitted my claim and it was approved in about 30 seconds which was very surprising!  You need the serial number on the actual SSD and also need to take a photo of it too.  So make sure you take photos before putting it into your system/enclosure.
It must be automated, mine was almost instant like yours. A breath of fresh air compared to the usual nightmare of waiting 30 days/submitting/hearing nothing for months.

    Do these drives run hot?
Are they suitable for a laptop with average cooling?
Only under artificial loads of extreme sustained file IO (and chances are the source/destination wont match the speed to put much pressure on it anyway!)
  19. Avatar
I presume Amazon.de should qualify as well? 229 Euro there. It's directly from amazon so I guess it's ok?
Probably a good shout. And as the promotion is shown in Euros as well as pounds I don't see why not.
  20. Avatar
I can’t tell if this is a deal? Showing £230
You have to claim for the cashback after you buy it
  21. Avatar
erm you can do, I guess this would save you a little bit of money and will be more performant. However, note that these drives can only reach their maximum speeds in PCIe 4.0/5.0 ports, as the speeds are faster than the bandwidths that is supported by PCIe 3.0.
They'll still work in a PCIe 3.0 port though. I bought the 980 Pro because I intend to use it now with my PCIe 3.0 motherboard, but also upgrade my PC at some point in the future to support the full PCIe 4.0 speeds.
  22. Avatar
Is the one with heatsink not eligible for cashback?
No, I spoke with customer service earlier and the MZ-V8P2T0CW is not in the promotion. Silly really as its the same drive🤷‍♂️
  23. Avatar
yes sold by amazon rather than a 3rd party seller and have double checked the serial number.
    Sad times
Quick online search shows this has happened to others and samsung support aren't much use
Looks like I'll have to return and reorder
I had this with my sons Samsung Watch, I just sent photographs and they approved it, wasnt a big deal!
  24. Avatar
This has been expired - has the cashback deal been withdrawn by Samsung?
I think it's expired because Amazon out of stock.

Any deals on 2tb for ps5?
    Yeah, this!
  26. Avatar
This is 149 with cashback right?
  27. Avatar
I have no clue on these new SSDs so I would appreciate some advice. Shall I get this or WD SN850? Is one better? Do I wait until Black Friday if I can wait before getting one?
SN850 is marginally better but you'd never notice. Get this.
  28. Avatar
any know of a good heatsink for ps5 ? thanks.
Loads of cheap ones on Amazon. 980 Pro doesnt need much.

The PS5 Sabrent is a good cooler (discounted at times, like Amazon Germany right now) and can work very very well for the hottest drives. Its overkill technically but easy to work with.

Ordered! Superb deal with the cashback! Last SSD I bought was 11 years ago, a Samsung 830 256GB, still going strong as an ox!
Did you get a heatsink if so which one? Thanks
  32. Avatar
Someone posted a link to registering your business for the EPP a few days ago. I can't find it- can anyone give me a URL please?
  33. Avatar
    Submitted yesterday.

    Today received this:

Happy days. Thanks for posting deal OP.
Was the full serial on the box?
  34. Avatar
Anyone getting from other sellers likely to have cashback declined, Samsung site states it has to be through Amazon Direct
  35. Avatar
CCL is a participating retailer and they have it in stock

I've ordered mine, hopefully the claim won't be a problem to process
    Good find!
  36. Avatar
I know it's not relevant to the deal but,
If you plan to use it in a PS5 and you can do so, install it in a PC first and update the firmware using Samsung Magician.

Both my brother and I went from 5300MB/s to 6600MB/s on the initial test. (edited)
  37. Avatar
Currently back in stock on Samsung's store for those who have access to the student discount.

Bit of a wait though. Earliest delivery time was 19th. (edited)
Yep, £214 on there. If this drops on Amazon on the deal days coming up I will just cancel the Samsung order (or return it if it shows up, as they have free returns!).
