Upgrade your system

Don't just add more storage to your PC. Bring the speed of your system to the next level. The Samsung 980 PRO M.2 Internal SSD is designed for professional PCs that need to handle everything. So you won't be held back trying to load your favourite editing software or opening up the year's figures in a huge spreadsheet.

Impressive performance

When it comes to SSD read and write speeds, the bigger the number, the better the performance. And the 980 PRO has more than enough speed to power through huge workloads. Thanks to PCIe gen4 and Samsung's Elpis Controller it can achieve read speeds up to 7,000 MB/s and write speeds up to 5,000 MB/s.

Durable yet compact

The 980 PRO SSD is built in a tiny M.2 form factor, which means you can easily slot it into compact PC cases. And you won't need to worry about upgrading any time soon - the integrated heatsink keeps the temperatures in check even under heavy load. And it's backed by a 5-year guarantee.

After 1 year, warranty handled by Samsung for remaining 4 years. If warranty claimed and item replaced at anytime during warranty then replacement item is still covered by warranty remainder from purchase date of original item. Standard Warranty. Years and years has been this way at all different retailers for all different things. So totally worth it. HEAT.

You are technically buying a clearance item and one that states so and also states about damaged box. In theory if this is on your “receipt” then Samsung don’t have to honour a 5 year warranty as it’s clear what you’ve bought and paid for.
It’s technically not a new item and that could be their get out.
Best to be a little cautious I would say

You need to read more about the laptop to see if it can take a NVMe SSD, or not.
And as Noicee commented it also depends on how much space there is as to if the heatsink will cause problems. Without knowing the laptop make/model its hard to say

NVME heatsinks are pretty straightforward to remove though! Couple of screws to remove then use a credit card or something similar to gently pry off the thermal pad. Takes a couple of minutes, tops.

Bit late now as it (this deal) is out of stock, but yeah, going by this thread you have an nvme slot. However, not sure what sort of speeds you can expect due to the dated transfer speeds of your laptop. You'd probably be better going for a cheaper PCIe 3.0 ssd than this one as you won't benefit from the speeds. Maybe I'm wrong and someone else will chip in, but that's what I reckon!

Looks like it will take it, and your 250gb drive may be a NVMe alreadtbut looking at looking at threads on it the heat sink may mean it won’t fit. Unfortunately that’s much harder to find out about as it’s probably not a common question of how much clearance there is inside. (edited)

Thanks, purchased with the 10% ebay code (TENOFF3) so came to under £101 with over 1100 nectar points collected. Not Curry's biggest fan but hoping it arrives in a good condition.

So the 5 year manufacturer's warranty doesn't apply? (edited)

    In one place they say:

The 980 PRO SSD is built in a tiny M.2 form factor, which means you can easily slot it into compact PC cases. And you won't need to worry about upgrading any time soon - the integrated heatsink keeps the temperatures in check even under heavy load. And it's backed by a 5-year guarantee.

    But in the other:

New Other products come with our 12 month Currys Clearance Warranty from the date of purchase. If your product becomes faulty please contact us via the eBay Message Centre.

So I am a bit confused here and just for this reason I am out

Have sent Currys a message to clarify whether it's 1 year only, or 1 year with Currys and the remaining term with Samsung. Doubt I'll get a response this time of night, but will update if or when I get a response.

That said though, and it's only my opinion, but I'm thinking if doesn't fail in the first year, it should be good to keep going... I'm yet to have a Samsung SSD fail on me yet... Hopefully I haven't just jinxed my stuff lol (edited)

Historically the manufacturers guarantee is 5yrs. 12 months with currys and the remaining with Samsung. Their returns for faulty parts I've not had a problem with and I've only had 2 issues out of god knows hoe many parts I've had of Samsung.

Exactly. When you buy a brand new item, they do not mention - 5 years warranty, of which 12 months is with the seller and the reminder with the manufacturer. For some reson Currys mentioned 12 months warranty with them.
So it looks to me that this is treated as a sellers refurb and they give you their warranty of 12 months. Of course, I can be wrong but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Personally I’d take what currys says with a pinch of salt. Customer service is dreadful.
Take the price promise for a start. That is amazing the excuses I’ve had.
Before I get the have any examples of currys fantastic customer service excuses. Here’s some. This was a brand new item on sale at Argos posted on here. I tried to get currys to price match as I get money off through work and this was the reply I received.
Not the first time. I’ve had many examples. Don’t believe anything their Indian call centres states. It’s all waffle.
