Got one of these from Play last week.
Seems pretty good so far.
To make it region-free for DVD (no code for region free blu-ray yet) do this:
1) power off then power on again, wait until it gets to the start-up selection screen.
2) eject disc tray and then close disc tray without a disc in.
3) wait until 'no disc' message has stopped displaying.
4) use the remote and press REPEAT 57538
5) A '2' should appear in the top left corner.
6) Press 9 to make the player region free.
7) Power off and and powe on again, and try a foreign disc.

Just tried on mine, AFTER applying latest firmware update, and it works.

Had to return mine......kept sticking......sony is far superior......bd370

When you do the region hacks on a samsung, after it go region free, and when you update the firmware again it will go back to region 2 so you have to do the hack again.

"Watch Media via USB + Internet + Home Network! "

Excuse me for being thick but how do you watch media through your home network with this?
I assume this means streaming but this is not DNLA compliant is it? Thought that was the BDC550
Network on this is for BD Live only isn't it??

Bought one of these last week, took it back today.

Here are some of my experiences, maybe I was just unlucky, but probably worth being aware. Also, I ran a firmware update, so my experiences were on the latest software.

* BBC iPlayer / MUZU.tv / Betfair were not available on [email protected], no references to these services at all.

* LoveFilm shows on [email protected] but tells you that it's "Coming Soon", according to some forums, it's said this for quite a while.

* YouTube works but searching is very awkward, certainly the worst YouTube interface I've used (Similar although somehow not quite as good as XBMC for those who've used it)

* Didn't recognise a 2.5" portable HD, recognised a USB memory stick but the two AVI's I tried both played very badly. The frame rate on high motion scenes (even moderately high motion) seemed to decrease to about 2-4 FPS, very very noticable.

* Certainly not able to play networked media files (Home Network), despite the Samsung website claiming it's possible, many forums confirm that it's not possible. Apparently Samsung admit this isn't possible when calling their Technical Support. I tried setting up Samsungs own AllShare PC software, but no luck.

* The USB port is on the front of the device, would have been nice to hide the memory stick away from sight.

* [email protected] may well evolve into a good system, but the claim of "multitude of entertainment" is far from accurate. With every app currently available, it doesn't even fill the initial screen.

* Even though it does mention in the description, th Wireless LAN does not come with the player. The USB connector is around £80, so if you're planning on wireless, might not be the cheapest option.

All of that said, it plays the Blu-Ray movies very well, good picture quality. Can't comment too much on the audio. The remote control is ugly, but does work with the AnyNet Samsung system.

Hope that's of use to somone.

Cheers
Daint

Hello this is my first ever comment or anything on Hot UK Deals but I am a long time user. I have not heard of the company in the deal, but have been looking at this and the mentioned Sony Blu Ray player for a while. I have heard of various problems with this player regarding mainly lack of advertised online features such as the BBC iplayer and disk sticking/not playing also mentioned hear. What is the current status of the iplayer etc.?
What I want to ask is one is the player advertised “brand new in box” i.e. not a refurb or second hand? What is the company like and what is their returns policy if I have a problem with the player I couldn’t find it. What is the business like have never heard of this company? And lastly just to confirm I could sell the Blu Rays on?

Thank You All! One last thing it says 1080p will it work on a 1080i tv?

I don't know anything about the company either;

- looks brand new
- nothing or nobody will prevent you from selling the blu-rays on (may be bundle packs so might fetch less though)
- It says 1080p but it will be fine with a 1080i tv, most auto-switch depending on the max resolution of the TV, but you will be able to manually select say 720p as far as I can tell.

hope this helps.

Walk away and buy a Sony ! (waited ages to legitimately make this statement)

Got one from Hmv, personal experience is that [email protected] is pants but I have a pc for that, Blu Ray performance and media from USB drive is better than PS3 and mulls Sony blu ray player.

Tempted to buy for bedroom. Heat added!

Ps as far as I am aware RGB direct have been going for years and are fine!

good price but do not deliver nationwide although you have to go into the buying screen to find out

Postcode out of delivery range - Call us 020 8553 1708

I have this and a Sony 360 jobbie - this is a better unit. Much nicer GUI and plays everything i've thrown at it. The hack is easy too - done within 5 mins!

Was considering going for this deal but I’m not getting the warm and fuzzies after looking at the free Blu-rays which I was considering selling on to recoup the outlay.

If you wanted to buy them all separately you are looking at about £46 (forgetting quidco cashbacks)

If you wanted to sell them on eBay you would be looking at around £30 after eBay fees.

So £89 - 30 = £59 for the blu-ray player effectively.

Is it worth £59?

Defo.

RGB Direct have been going for years. Good company.

About 8 years ago they sent me a panasonic dvd player which broke, ended up they had originally sent me a refurb one, which was in error (or so they say), my dad was the one sorting it out because i was still a bit young at the time and i remember it just took ages and they were unwilling to do anything, terrible company, but that was along time ago. never again tho!
