Love chrome and Google and this is no exception. Is a very different and new concept but is well worth it for the price.

wheres the deal?

Its not that new, I have two and can highly recommend them...

You will need a decent Internet connection to get most out of the device. You get offline access to some of your files and documents, but for the majority of things, you will need a decent Internet connection.

Sorry mate, I was being a bit facetious and highlighting there is no deal. This is RRP (correct me if im wrong)- maybe at sub £200 it would be a good price and qualify as a hot deal, but for me, this is not a good deal.

I had the Acer C7 version of the Chromebook delivered 27 Nov 12 and as a notebook it's fine, but attach it to a HDTV it doesn't cut the grade! No matter what I did, the TV looked like a VGA from the 1990's!

My 4 year old laptop connects and displays at full 1080 perfectly fine.

I looked online, and this is a common problem. It's effectively been released unfinished, in my opinion.
Needless to say, it's already boxed with a return label, and is going back today 28th..

Sad really, 'cus it's a nice looking little unit.

The "Samsung Series 5 550 Wi-Fi Chromebook" plays 1080p with no fuss but that's the newer more expensive model/version of the Chromebook....

I think it's a good price for what it is but it's been this price since release so agree it's not a deal. I'm waiting for £30 to come off before I buy.

Assume you can format these and put on Ubuntu, etc?

Does it output to an HDTV @ 1920x1080 60hz ?

No idea but perhaps its NOT intended for that type of consumer, that's been the trouble with the Chromebook too many compare them with a win7 type machine and they sound daft doing so...If you match the machine to the intended market/consumer (me) its a very good and highly recommended trouble free experience...
