Ok- so you may have seen this before:

For comparison, I recently bought a real laptop, an Acer Aspire E1, Intel dual core with 4Gb ram and 500 Gb hard drive, 15.6 inch HD screen, DVD R/W optical drive, HDMI out, 3 USB sockets and an SD card socket, complete with Windows 8, for £249.99 delivered. This thing is missing half the goodies and costs more.

Whether you like the chromebook concept or not, that isn't a bargain.

Well done you!! I once got 4 pork chops reduced down to 50p in Sainsburys meaning anytime they're over 50p now I think it's a rip off !!

Chromebooks are useless and way way overpriced... Fact.

Who in their right mind would buy this stuff? Really?

Pointless comparison. For example, you ignore that the Chromebook is half the weight of the E1, and the battery lasts twice as long. That could be significant to some buyers. If you want a laptop, buy a a laptop. If you want a chromebook, this is a deal.

They aren't useless. Google originally wanted these to be really cheap -netbook cheap- so that people could have a basic machine to do internet/chrome app stuff on, Samsung then priced it stupidly and ruined the whole concept. There's corporate greed ruining things for you.

Comparing these to laptops is just plain daft.

The battery does NOT last twice as long. My laptop spec says 6 hours battery life- this is specced at half an hour more. And 6.5 is no feat anyway; my wife's Acer Timeline is specced at 9 hours. (edit- after checking, my memory is faulty- my Aspire is specced at 4 hours, still more than half the chromebook battery life).

Chromebooks are also sold on speed, another scam. They start up quick, but then your program and data access is out on the cloud, so it all comes at the speed of your internet or wifi connection. That's variable, but almost certainly slower than accessing a hard disk. and this thing has a Celeron running at 1.3 GHz, half the speed of the CPU in my cheap Aspire.

Chromebooks are an attempt to sell a half-empty box at a premium price.

Just checked- my Acer buy is still available, but now at a higher price- £291.29 delivered. That's still over eight quid cheaper than this deal.

By comparison you can still get netbooks cheaper which do more. Not a good product, but a good deal because it is cheaper than elsewhere for this particular (crap) product. Heat.
