Amazing deal - the only thing is the 3 cartridges are tiny & only provide about 750 pages, and they cost around £35 each!

I know the black & white samsung laser printer ML1665 can be hacked to allow cartridges to be refilled, but as I say the cartridges in the colour printer are tiny, so I think this would be a lot harder to achieve...

I've actually got one of these and being a bit borassic right now, when the toner ran out I bought a £17 HP deskjet as a replacement as £100+ for the new cartridges was just stupid. I am surprised that there's not been some form of EC / Green regulation against the manufacturers to prevent this happening. I hate to think what resources get used up every time we all go and buy a new printer rather than replace the ink...

You really shouldn’t feel guilty. It’s entirely the manufacturers fault, or more precisely, the fault of the specific empowered people behind the quite intentional marketing strategy of the manufacturers.

Inkjets are **** quality compared to laser, laser also lasts longer negating its more expensive price over ink. Laser printers are easy to refill the cartridge effectively DIY recycling. You can save a bunch just refilling a cart rather than buy a new one.

you can refill the toner but you need to buy chip replacements £8 for 4 … you can refill the toner but you need to buy chip replacements £8 for 4 on a quick scan of eababy.

£8 for 4? I only see £7.60 for one. Alternatively, you can get toner and 4 chips for £46 from Hong Kong, or a permanent fix (which you need to solder in) for about £23 from Turkey (guess they'd be stomped on if they sold it from an EU country...).

Good price. Seriously thinking of getting one of these purely as spare parts for my CLP-325W.

Just orderd one, I have a Samsung Black and White laser printer, I fear the ink will run out soon so decided to buy this on offer,

As i dont print much colour prints, still nice to be able to... i will just store it until the black ink runs out and than see how much i can get for it ebay and start using this one.... You can get cheap refil kits off ebay with chips for this for around £45 so not too bad

I got one of these from Amazon a couple of months ago for about £90. Really pleased with it. I don't do huge amounts of printing so won't be hit with the expensive cartridge problem for a long time yet, at which time I'll consider doing what another poster has already suggested and simply buy a new printer.

Very hot at this price - great find OP

Is it true that the supplied cartridges that come with a new printer are only half full?

Hot price btw for this one.

My partner bought this last time it was on offer- it has been worth every penny.
she got thought the supplied ink fairly quickly due to her business, but it still worked out more cost effective for her.

Its about time inkjets were phased out now that colour lasers are this price. Inkjets are old hat, printheads keep blocking and lets face it they are slow along with poor quality printing. And to top it off the ink smudges if you get it wet, i appreciate the fact that cartridges may only be fifty pence but are just cheap rubbish ink.

I am one of those who just threw away a perfectly usable laser printer because it was as cheap buying new. Like most folk I do not print every day and inkjets do not meet that requirement. Anything I want better quality goes to one of the many companies offering cheap prints.

It is a scandal that the EU/US are not cracking down on this landfill and also ensuring that printers are duplex by default.

I usually print documents rather than photos with my Epson R200 inkjet printer due to it always having disappointing results (wrong colours, bleeding etc), and even documents are pretty manky. Barcodes for gigs and dot barcodes for printed postage forget about it.The only thing I'll miss is dvd printing but that seems to have been outlawed as the Epson P50 seems to be the only printer that does this and apparently it's awful.

So this isn't duplex, is there an easy way through the software where it automatically prints odd pages then you can put the paper back in the tray and it prints the rest in correct order?

Oh christ, jus realised £105+ for refills? Never mind, don't want one. If it was about £20ish that would have been doable.

Is this as good a deal as the offers that are normally on the Dell 1320 through IJT etc?
Cheers

The Dell looks honking massive but looks a lot cheaper to run as you get two sets of carts with it and the carts are a lot cheaper and do double the amount of prints.

Edit, it's 16 inches cubed, so as tall as a broadsheet newspaper. That is ridiculously huge unless it's for an office.

Cheers montblanc! I've had the Dell on the back burner, while I wait for the ink in my current printer to run out so was wondering if this was a better option. The Dell is a monster but I'm more bothered by the running costs than the looks of the unit.
Heat added to the deal anyway, as it still looks a good value unit even if used as a throw away.

Does this come with ink etc? Can't see it anywhere sorry.
Cheers.

agreed its one obvious overlooked stat

RE: buying new printers.
There's too much money in it for them manufacturers to care about eco.
it's up to us as individuals to try and do our little bit.
Besides, if you do it on religious grounds, your reward is reserved whatever they do so, on the flip side, blaming it on them is not enough.

Comes with 4 toner cartridges (black, magenta, cyan, yellow) that are 70% full. It doesn't take ink but I know what you mean

Doesn't matter how much it costs to replace. If it fails, just buy a whole new printer! ;-)

Did the printer you bought not have third party refilling kits and chips? This one does.

At one stage we had the odd situation that in the EU it was going to become illegal to prevent third parties making replacement ink cartridges while in the US is was going to become illegal to allow them.

Eco-disaster it might be, but if this printer were not subsidised it wouldn't have created ripples on HUKD!

Doesn't your word processor's printing dialogue allow you to do that? LibreOffice (OpenOffice) does (Page Layout tab), so I presume Micro$oft Office does as well.

I'm trying to work out what you're trying to say, and I think you're asking if the black cartridge in the mono printer is bigger than that in the colour printer. According to toner refill ads on eBay, it is - they supply 90g for the mono printer and 65g for the colour printer (whose colour cartridges take only 45g each, by the way).

R sorry misunderstood u I thought u were saying the balck cart in this printer was smaller than the colour carts in this printer.

If they r the same as the 310 thats not a prob the size is just fine unless u r a real high volume user.

The 310 is great could only get 3rd party black refils but I now see I can colour as well. I wonder if the same will happen with this one as this is a good deal.

I'll look at the toner place I goto when I get home as post if applicabe.

The horrible thing is though, that even the refill kit and chip combo for this still costs about £60 which is nearly as much as the printer.

Yes, I can see your points. I bought this printer scx-4500 for £51.75. But the toner is over £50 so I think I can sell it on ebay and get a brand new printer and save money.
