Just got back from Asda Livingston, they were selling these Samsung DVD -D530 players for £15!!!

Has 1080p upscaling, HDMi & USB.

Not exactly latest tech I know, but 15 quid for a brand new decent make upscaling dvd player seems not too bad. Good for spare bedroom or kids room.

I know it may be store specific as this is the same Asds which had the Blu ray players a few weeks ago.

Was about 10 left after I bought one, hope someone else sees the value.

'Upscaling'. It ranks alongside phone 'upgrades' as one of the great marketing scams.

All it does is enlarge the image from 720x576 to 1920x1080. Exactly the same thing that your TV would do if you shoved 720x576 into it in the first place.

Indeed, if your TV isn't full HD, the last thing you want to do is 'upscale' from your DVD player. You'll then have a worse picture as it will have been enlarged by the DVD player and then reduced in size by the TV.

Now you could make a case that some expensive dedicated hardware would do a better job that your TV, but we're talking about a £15 Asda special.
15 squids for a dvd player...... can't be bad
showing @ £29 but probably still good value for the USB slot with DIVX support. download and watch on Tv rather than PC.
Seems a good deal

I understand what you are saying but many upscaling dvd players do a far better job of 'upscaling' than some well known T.V brands. Also just by using a HDMI output instead of a composite scart lead can make a massive difference in colour, sharpness & lack of interference.
I had a similar Sammy DVD player I got for £99 many years ago from Richer Sounds and I have to say it trounced my exceptional Cambridge Audio DVD player into the ground.
Great find thanks
Excellent! Heat added
none in leeds morley asda
Saw these the other day
I got this same deal in the Asda at the Trafford Centre in Manchester last week. Shows as £29 online and instore but mine changed at the till. Great DVD player for this price and does a good job of upscaling the DVD. Great deal!

I'm not saying don't use HDMI, just don't let the DVD player do the upscaling.
