Samsung Evo 840 250GB SSD @ Amazon UK - £50.98

Out of stock with expected shipping date between 1 and 4 weeks but you can still place an order so quite the bargain if you don't need it straight away.

It is the previous generation Samsung SSD, however, still cheaper than both the budget 750 series (£63.98) and new 850 series (£83.68), in fact very cheap for 250GB of SSD space period.

Actually have one in my laptop right now and it is fantastic and definitely plenty fast so will make a great upgrade for any machine.

thx just got 1

Cheers OP

Thanks, was looking at the 750 which i believe this has better warranty (not that it matters cause losing data either way is annoying) but also the cashe size is double.

How is that a deal £50 for 250gb?

Is it cheaper some where else?

I can't find any other 250GB SSD for £50 - could you share the deal link please?

As an early TLC drive, this model had serious slowdown and retention problems. Would not buy it personally unless it was much cheaper.

cheap.Heat added.

I have got 2 running for last couple of years. No problems so far.

I had one of these and it took two attempts for them to sort it out and that might have impacted the endurance of the drive as well.
Not sure if that last fix was even 100% as I sold the drive on. Just glad I didn't pay much for it to start with.
Too many dodgy Samsung products I think.

£50 for Samsung Evo 250G is a deal.

Waiting for a £25 120GB deal. Will buy a few.

Cheers man, bought for my laptop.

Just be sure to upgrade the firmware as soon as you get it and you'll have a great drive.

If I buy one of these, what's the best way to make a clone of my current harddrive? And is it just a case once cloned of swapping the harddrives over?

Cold, you can go into the future and pick these up for pennies.
Hot, for the non time travelers.

It definitely is a good deal if you take into account that prices have been going up rather than down in the last few months (probably cos of exchange rates). There are hardly any deals for 250GB drives (for any major brand) for £50 or less at the moment.

Of course, you may want to sit tight till Black Friday but that depends on how urgently its needed.

Same here.... 2 years old and still running sweet as a nut....

Brilliant deal, I already have two SSDs in my laptop of the same ~250gb size, but this is really tempting.

Voted HOT!

Don't want to use up your time but would it go a little like this:- new drive in SATA dock, Macrium does the copy/clone job, new drive placed in laptop - done? No fiddly things like getting the new drive to boot, maybe OEM license in BIOS?

Seriously stuck for HDD laptop space. Could bung it all onto external HDD tho.

Thanks!

Added a Samsung 850 Evo to my 6 year old HP laptop with first gen i3 and now it flies!

Thanks op was waiting for the balk Friday deals but this has come early, 1 item off my new pc shopping list.

Good price. For a bomb ;D

Thanks! Updating my current PC this Christmas, so need to buy a few parts. Was waiting for a cheap SSD. Also I don't mind waiting the 4 weeks, as if I see a better deal, I can easily cancel my order. Now waiting for a cheaper 3TB, intel i5, mobo and GPU. Also can someone tell me, will ram prices drop, looking to buy 2x8gb but really pricey at the moment. Don't want to spend much since a bulk of the money will go towards the GPU and CPU. Heat added!

Got the 500gb version, 2 years no problemo

It's a hot deal, well it is a Samsung!

oos

too late !

Damn.. looks like I missed out on a good deal here!

Yeah, the fix was really just a bandaid. There's an inherent problem with cell leakage on this generation of TLC. In laymans terms the data just degrades relatively quickly (weeks/months) after being written. The firmware fix is that it goes around rewriting everything after a few weeks/months to counter the leakage problem. Which of course incurs more writes on the drive and wears it out even quicker.

If it was cheaper I might go with one and live with the downsides. At this price I would just pay the few quid extra and get something without such a major flaw.

Well it was fun while it lasted, we managed to make it the best selling drive up from 22nd spot this morning

Hi, I've checked amazon just now and the price is 270 pounds oO !??!?

Replaced the HD on my Samsung a couple of months ago with an 850 Evo 500gb bought for c. £115 about 6 months ago and it goes like "sxit of the shovel" !!
I see that the SSD is now £150 at Amazon.
How on earth has it gone from £115 to £150 in 6 months?
Even the $ hasn't dropped by that much.
Floods in Thailand again?
