Scan appear to be the first online retailer offering the Samsung F4 2TB drive and they have it on today only offer. This is the first 2TB drive to use 667GB platters which leads to significantly improved performance compared to other 2TB drives. Certainly well worth the extra £10 compared to other 2TB drives.

Scroll to about half way down the today only page and choose the 2TB Samsung HD204UI/Z4, SpinPoint EcoGreen F4EG SATA 3Gb/s, 32MB Cache, 8.9 ms, NCQ. It also comes bundled with an Akasa SATA cable.

As in the description - scroll to around half way down the page. Put into shopping basket from this page otherwise you pay the normal price clicking from the product page and. don't get the SATA cable.

"Go to deal" takes me to a huge catalogue.Where abouts is it?

Clicking this link; scan.co.uk/pro…003 will only take you to product item page but to get this "Today Only" asking £89.21 price then you have to go to this page; scan.co.uk/Tod…spx & scroll down to the Super Savers section & just click that green "Buy It" button which places the item in your shopping basket.

You will still get the LN26133 45cm Akasa AK-CB053 Premium SATA II Straight Cable with new Latch Connector (Red) (not covered by Scansure) as part of the "Today Only" deal anyway regardless you don't want it but at least it's free for you to decide what you do with it.

why do you think that this is good? its old tech get a sata3 drive and it will be far faster and before people say they have got an old board with no sata3 on it, A sata PCIe card is only cheap and will give you far better performance than sata2 and stretch your old boards out a bit longer.

SATA3 provides a 6GBps interface versus SATA2's 3GBps. The fastest mechanical drives are around 1.6GBps and so there is no advantage to SATA3 over SATA2. For proof see following test: pcper.com/art…870 SATA3 is a gimic for mechancial drives. Some SSD's are getting close to 3GBps (eg the Crucial C300 is the world's fastest SSD at 2.85GBps) and so you could see some advantage attaching an SSD to a SATA3 port. However, it will be a long time before you get a 2TB SSD at any sort of reasonable price.

The Samsungs' 667GB platters will make this the World's fastest 2TB drive.

When you post a link to a SATA3 2TB drive at this price I might start listening to you, until then I shall put you on my 'ignore' list. A SATA3 2TB drive will set you back around £150 PLUS another £20 for a controller.

Can't believe someone has posted a offer of a Ford Mondeo for £5,000, so old school, you should buy a Bugatti Veron as they go much faster.

woah im pretty tempted

Absolutely correct - I'm not sure why some believe higher speed interfaces result in faster drives. The person you replied had claimed to be MCSA trained in another thread.

Hehe, don't need a certificate/training to understand a benchmark.

Right now Sata3 has heavy overheads and offers no advantage on today's mechanical HDD's. And when I say no advantage, I mean no advantage, switching back to Sata2 sees similar if not better performance in some cases on the latest Sata3 drives.
